France Deploys two Frigates as it Joins Operation IRINI to enforce Libya arms embargo

@azyr @-SINAN- @cabatli_53

It's been revealed by the French naval specialized press that on her way back to Toulon from the strait of Hormuz,the French frigate Forbin "surprised" on the 27th of May a roll off Turkish ship en route to Misrata. A merchant ship which was escorted by two Turkish frigates,TCG Gemlik and TCG Oruçreis.

"Officially" the ship was sailing to Gabès (Tunisia) and actually changed its course to this Tunisian port after being overflown by the Forbin's panther helicopter. Once the French frigate left,the ship resumed her way towards Libya.

Libye : une frégate grecque va rejoindre l’opération Irini, qui peine à trouver sa place

So,the "Forbin" was actually the "unknown" Horizon ship spotted in Libyan waters few days ago... (Alongside the Italian ships of the same class)

The French captain surely knew where that ship was going to end up, he's not stupid or else he wouldn't be commanding a ship of the French navy I guess.

So that means no one actually wants to push the other side too much - just enough to show "mission accomplished" I suppose? Like the Turkish frigates obviously didn't bull ahead with Libya as the destination and observed as the French helicopter doing her rounds. And in turn the French ship didn't push her luck too much and "completed her mission" by verifying that the ship wasn't headed for Libya.

If that's the case with France I'm not sure what Greece is even hoping.

Edit: also, forgot to say "you sneaky bastards" :agree:

Hope, Italians stay out of it and left us alone with Greeks to play. :D

Things do not seem much "amical" with the Greeks however as there's currently a standoff reported.

Greek Frigate Shadows Turkish Ship Suspected of Carrying Weapons to Libya

A frigate from the Greek Navy which is taking part in the EU naval mission off the coast of Africa is currently shadowing a Turkish vessel suspected of carrying weapons to Libya, violating the UN-imposed arms embargo to the civil war- torn country.

According to Greek defense sources, the HS Spetsai, which is participating in “Operation Irini” together with other European Union vessels, sent out a signal to the Turkish vessel, which is accompanied by two Turkish frigates.

The vessel did not respond and a Greek Navy helicopter flew over to ask permission to inspect the cargo. The request was denied by the Turkish frigates sailing nearby.

"Chopper backed off after the Turkish warning b/c IRINI doesn’t have authority"

e says, ships can be boarded for inspection but;
1-) Boarding side should get permission from the ship's flag country.
2-) Boarding side should get permission from the ship's captain.

I told this before... but if i know Turkish navy, they won't let go of this provocation.
