France and Britain have agreed to invest 2 billion euros in a project to build a next-generation multi-role drone with a view to making it operational after 2030, the two countries said in a statement on Thursday.

"This program ... will be based on a multi-role drone platform that could serve as a basis for future operational capacity after 2030," the statement said after a Franco-British summit. "We plan to invest 2 billion euros in this program with a technical assessment toward 2020."

The Future Combat Air System project will give the UK and France the most advanced vehicle of its kind in Europe, securing high-end engineering jobs and expertise in both countries with full scale development of prototypes starting in 2017. UK companies including BAE Systems, Finmeccanica Airborne and Space Systems Division ,and Rolls Royce and Dassault Aviation, SNECMA/Safran and Thales in France are expected to benefit from the project.

At the summit, Mr. Fallon also secured agreement from France to look at purchasing Brimstone missiles for its next version of the Tiger Combat helicopter. And he committed the UK to providing one strategic airlift flight a month to support French forces in their operations against terrorists in Africa.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said:

"Brimstone missile would be a significant option for the upgrade of their Tiger attack helicopters."

"The sale of this British made precision weapon would deliver investment in the UK economy and help protect both our shared interests around the world."

The 49kg, rocket-propelled Brimstone ground attack missile is currently in use in Iraq and Syria and would offer a valuable upgrade to the French arsenal. The cutting edge weapon is widely regarded as a world leader due to its unrivalled precision and ability to inflict minimal collateral damage.

The summit comes ahead of Exercise Griffin Strike, which will take place around the UK in the Spring. Armed forces from both sides of the Channel will train together across land, sea and air platforms as part of the development of the Combined Joint Expeditionary Force (CJEF).

so it will a mix of our taranis and neuron.that will be good but lets hope Germany doesn't come in too then it's ruined.
as for the tigers... well thats interesting as the apaches are being used in naval roles on hms ocean, so the tigers would be land based and used by the army. the Aussies are scrapping theirs and they have not used them, so we may take them, who knows. its still to early to pop open the champaign. but the mention of implementation of the brimstone missile means its serious.

Well, as I said several times on here we are each other closest ally. So its only natural that we cooperate on so many sensitive military projects that many countries can only dream of. Afterall, we are Europes leading military powers and we both have interests and Bases around the globe, so a strategic intercontinental stealth bomber like the U.S X-47B is needed to support our forces and interests around the world.
Here is to the Anglo-French alliance, friendship and brotherhood.

2 B € ???

Hey, that's great news! That sum is most likely enough so that they can't renege on the project.

Too bad the Lancaster House accords we're not an electoral promise huh? That woulda been a first! :cheesy:

Sorry for the enthusiasm, it felt like Friday after reading that, Tay.

The best of French and British engineering........World class.........I'm pretty sure she will have no equal when she becomes operational. Might even surpass that of our American friend.:D:P

If we ever allowed Germany to join this project, then we can all say goodbye to this ambitious project, since they will certainly ruin it as you said. Just look at the Typhoon when we brought them in they promised to order same amount of fighters like we did, reason they were granted the same share as Britain, only for them to start backtracking on this years later after they had gotten what they wanted.
So allowing them in this project is a NO....NO.:pop:

Brimstone missile has no equal as of yet. It's a beauty indeed. Hopefully our French brothers will purchase this fabulous missile.

France cancels purchase of Israeli drones - Europe - News - Arutz Sheva
What are your thoughts on this since an Israeli posted the thread?

Nothing to do with Israel.

We selected the Sagem's offer because ;

-It is 90% made in France. (Most of the Watchkeeper would have been built in Uk.)
-It has more than 80% french contents. (Compared to the Watchkeeper's 10%.)
-It will double employment at Sagem's plants in France. (Important.)
-The capabilities of the Sagem's UAV impressed the army.
-It offers our army high quality visual capability, and transmission.
-It could bed armed with laser targeted rockets and Anti tanks MMP missiles.

OK let's center that ball :

at ISO cost

80% of jobs local vs 30% for the WK
Sagem made the predecessor Sperwer ( same industrial sites )
More payload
A better optronic suite co-developed by the DGA ( and of which Thales owns 50% so not a total loss )
AND ...
the ability to fly over French soil in a shared aerial space following civilian controllers and regulations.

So what was that about the Israelis exactly?

Not even close, Tay.

P.S. It was Euro regs that forced the competition or the Watchkeeper woulda won!

P.P.S. Don't forget the Reaper Blk 5 buy that intervened recently?
