Foxconn could make all US iPhones outside of China if needed, says company

It not only doesn't solve any of those issues (you have to hire people to operate those robots), but also brings in new problems, like the wrath of social crusaders: who like you to invest in their local towns without bringing in any meaningful employment?

Well I don’t think the typical citizen in Thailand or India has much of a say in that. They’d be lucky if the local water supply doesn’t get poisoned.

I said "social crusaders", not typical citizen.

The day Foxconn starts producing iPhone in India that will be my last day using iPhones. In fact, it is not just me, many friends of mine share the same feeling.

India already assembles older models of the iphone

If my iPhone doesn't say "Assembled in China" I won't buy it. Yes, if it says "Assembled on Mars" I'll be ok with it, but certainly not if it had "Assembled in India".

Dude you don't matter

Manufacturing is the main thing. Where are majority of the parts coming from for the assembly? Is the motherboard manufactured in India?
Foxconn already manufacture PCB's in India and have brands like Xiaomi, Samsung etc... as customers.

Samsung too manufacture their phones in India including PCB's. But the batteries comes from Vietnam or China.

Cars are assembled all over the world.

No only assembly for now . But doesn't matter as it can create thousands of jobs in semi urban areas . And we desperately need jobs .

That's what people don't get, alot of Chinese components are used by foxconn to manufacture stuff. The US ban is against final Chinese product not Chinese components per se. My bet is the final assembly will move to Vietnam because it's close to the South China supply chain.

There will be some damage to China but this is inevitable since we are transitioning into a developed country. Our workforce is shrinking, there will be massive investment into industrial 4.0. Vietnam will be our new Mexico and we will be the new US consuming from the world. That's the plan, whether we achieve this is something else

Manufacturing isnt a big deal. Quality Control is maintained by the said company.
