ISLAMABAD: Justice (Retd) Wajihuddin, a former Supreme Court judge and senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Wednesday launched a new political party “Aam Loeg Ittehad (ALI)” with the commitment to serve the nation sincerely and focus on problems of the common man.
Addressing a news conference here at the National Press Club, he said his party’s constitution guaranteed 80 percent representation to ordinary people at local, provincial and national levels.
“It is a bitter truth that only one percent elite of Pakistan has captured the whole system of institutional governance, while the role of ordinary people stands totally erased,” he claimed.
Wajihuddin, who resigned from basic membership of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) after developing differences with the party leadership over implementation of recommendations made by the party’s election tribunal over the ‘irregularities’ found in its intra-party elections, said ALI was distinct from other political parties.
“ALI is distinct due to its commitment to the projection of the rights of the common man and intra-party democracy at all its tiers and levels,” he maintained.
While introducing the slogan of party, he said, its motto was the same as of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah which is “Unity, Faith and Discipline.”
Spokesman of ALI Dr Syed Muhammad Hafeez Qaiser said the party had three streams including elected party office bearers, public representatives from the constituencies based on identification and selection of candidates through primaries where the office bearers would not be allowed to seek candidature in constituencies, and independent technocrats to run administrative affairs of the party.
According to the party manifesto, ALI would have a bottom-up approach, starting from tehsils to districts and upward ensuring the common man’s participation up to the highest level.
The party would uphold the rights of overseas Pakistanis and put their abilities to full use and improve international relations through an independent and peace-oriented foreign policy.
The party would strive for giving right to self-determination to people of occupied Kashmir with a pragmatic and long-term approach. – APP
