Former Philippine President and now Manila City mayor Joseph Estrada was quoted by Xinhua, the official press agency of the Chinese government, saying that China can help Philippines a lot rather than the United States in terms of infrastructure modernization. “Many Filipinos are of Chinese descent and this explains why the Philippines should maintain friendly relations with China,” the former President said.
The report from Xinhua also added that Mayor Estrada is against US military deployment in the West Philippine Sea. “Without them [US military], the Philippines will be better off because we are an independent country.” He added that US actions interfering internal affairs of Philippines is for its own interests.
Estrada, with his capacity as mayor and Manila as sister city of Beijing, will be attending China’s commemoration activities for the 70th anniversary of the End of World War II known in China as “Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War in Beijing.”
Europe and the US will not send high level representations to attend China’s military parade to be held as a main event of the September 3 commemoration. The Philippine government has not announced if it is sending a representative to attend the said event in China.
Former President Estrada: Philippines better without US military
---------------
What a narrow concept of a politician who was once president of the country. Every country's wish is to be friend with its neighbor and it is evident that the Philippine needs to do business with powerful nations like China. But who needs a country who is oppressive of its stance and at the same time tries to cheat by grabbing its territories? China will never respect us knowing our weakness militarily without US.
If the allegations of "unequivocal commitment to China" made by this two former president (Estrada and Gloria Arroyo) can be validated, both of them should be charged of treason. That's a treacherous act and now we are reaping the losses.
