He only become head of ISI for a limited period when General Akhtar Abdur Rahman died in a plane crash with Zia. Subsequently Gul was fired after he botched the Jalalabad operation.

Gul is another one of those generals who flourished under Zia, you might be aware that many of our great soldiers were either kicked out or restricted in those days and religious extremists were promoted or those who were close to Zia.

As soon as Zia was out of the scene, the good old soldiers returned and are working to this day to repair the damage caused by him.

I agree with your post hole-heartedly. Just one thing, Zia's boys lasted a pretty long time even though civilian rule was seen during the 90s. I remember a few incidents where some strict wahabi type officers made some Jawans do forward rolls down a hill during Ramadan for 8 hours until one of them died. Their punishment? Refusing to not shave.

People like Hamid Gul are the ones who cheer when our weapons are stolen from ambushed convoys taking military gear to ISAF up north and end up in the hand of Taliban. Then innocent civilians or our own troops or ISAF troops end up dead he cheers. This gives him the nerve to say America this and America that. Kutte ke bache, if it wasn't for America you'd still be supporting Taliban and they were planning to turn on Pakistan since day 1, wahabi terrorist only has allegiance to his early demise which will get him into paradise. They brought as much harm to Pakistan as Afghanistan not to mention the rest of the entire earth eating their blowback for decades.
