Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (2015-2019 period), Laode M Syarif highlighted Indonesia's dependence on China. In fact, business people from China are known to have evil 'tricks' in running their business.
Laode explained, based on the US-foreign corrupt practices act, from 2011 to 2020, China was a cunning country, because it often made improper payments.
"The first improper is China. Followed by Brazil, India, Mexico, Russia and Indonesia. Therefore, I am very afraid, when China becomes the largest investor in Indonesia," Laode explained in a Webinar, Tuesday (8/12/2020 ).
As is known, referring to data from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), China is the second largest Indonesian investor in 2019, with an investment value of US $ 4.7 billion or 16.8% of total investment to Indonesia. Projects developed by China in 2019 totaled 2,130.
Meanwhile, investment realization in the third quarter of 2020, investment has recorded positive growth. The total investment that enters the country is recorded at Rp. 209 trillion. Up 1.6% compared to the same period the previous year (year on year / yoy).
Foreign Direct Investment (PMA) in the July-September 2020 period was IDR 106.1 trillion, growing by 1.1% YoY. Meanwhile, the Domestic Investment (PMDN) was IDR 102.9 trillion, up 2.1% YoY.
In the third quarter of 2020, China was still the second country, after Singapore. China has invested in Indonesia, with an investment value of US $ 1.1 billion.
Here are the top 5 countries that contributed to investment in Indonesia in the third quarter of 2020:
1. Singapore US $ 2.5 billion
2. China US $ 1.1 billion
3. Japan, US $ 0.9 billion
4. Hong Kong, US $ 0.7 billion
5. Netherlands US $ 0.5 billion
On the same occasion, the Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia responded to Laode's statement. According to Bahlil, data related to improper payments with China topped the list, making him a little worried.
"It is true that there is data on this country, China is running chill down my spine ," said Bahlil.
Bahlil has also prepared a strategy so that Indonesia will not be fooled by investors from the Bamboo Curtain country. The trick, he said, is that Indonesia must be committed, to be fair to all investors. This means that no investor from any country can dominate investment in Indonesia.
In terms of courage in investing, Bahlil acknowledged that investors from China are the most courageous investors, compared to Japan.
Bahlil provides an example, for example in investing in mining. China takes more direct action to invest, while Japan has several lengthy researches, so that often the investment is not realized.
"For example, say nickel, almost all of the smelters are now China. We have to admit it, but on the one hand they are the bravest. For Japan, they have done a lot of research. In other countries too, the debate is begging for mercy." Bahlil explained.
It was this Chinese investor, according to Bahlil, who was the most favored, because his research was short, and there was no debate going on. In fact, China is more inclined to work first, and only consider it later.
Bahlil even confirmed from Laode's statement that investors from China are known to be fraudulent investors or have been labeled as improper payments.
"Well, China is a bit reckless, they work first and then think. I said, this is great, my friend. Admittedly, this is speculation, there must be some ashes. Many are not paid, say today A, tomorrow make something else, "said Bahlil continued.
