Pakistan has a great opportunity, largely untapped, for attracting foreign direct investment from the Arab world for a couple of distinct advantages. First, the Arab investment is more secure in Pakistan than the U.S. and the Europe. Second, Pakistan badly needs investment in large-scale manufacturing sector where the level of competition is still very limited. There are still very few manufacturing units in almost every consumer industry in Pakistan. Investment in large-scale manufacturing units has multiple benefits for the shareholders as well as the government, employees, suppliers, and dealers. One large-scale industry on an average creates means of livelihood for 10,000 households. Return on investment is handsome. Annual sales growth is 12% plus. It is basically longterm investment. Third, Pakistan is close to Afghanistan and CIS which are the potential markets for goods made in Pakistan. So, there is also a definite, growing, and long term export market.
