Seems like chaos will be the new norm for countries like us.Do these protesters have a leader? Do they have a plan to get SriLanka out of this mess? And suppose they can't and SriLanka further goes down the drain, is such a revolution worth it?
This is not likely to happen. China has more leverage over Sri Lanka now than ever before. IMF wants Sri Lanka to negotiate with China for loan deferral before IMF funds will be made available.I feel for the people and their suffering. But I’ll be cheering if their new administration decides to unilaterally cancel all these nasty contracts (on ports and other infra) they have with China.
Loans didn’t cause this. Corruption and mismanagement did. People took their country back from the corrupt. Only difference is that it was not initiated by west , otherwise western media would be all over it.This is not likely to happen. China has more leverage over Sri Lanka now than ever before. With the recent developments, Sri Lanka has taken two steps back
I never claimed I was being realistic. This is not likely to happen. China has more leverage over Sri Lanka now than ever before. IMF wants Sri Lanka to negotiate with China for loan deferral before IMF funds will be made available.
