This thread will be used to highlight the kinds of foods we had to eat in the JMSDF, what our boys currently are fed. Perhaps folks can also share the kinds of food they ate in their respective navies. @jhungary @gambit @Gabriel92 --- i know you guys served in the military, can you share some of your experiences too?

Anyways...here's JMSDF!!

I think traditional Japanese food is non spicy !

Seems Japanese cuisine adopted some of the recipes from India and that fry is from the west it seems.
People from Japan, ASEAN and China do love India spicy food :)

Curry is a staple in the JMSDF. Its available every day. You name it we have it in curry; Curry fish, curry pork, curry beef, curry lamb, curry goat, curry octopus, curry eel, curry whale meat, curry shark meat....LOL!

Even curry Tofu. LOL!

@Nihonjin1051 Where are the sushis ? Where are the Yakitoris ? Where's the kobe beef ? :(

I think Wagyu is the famous beef from Japan.

Nice to know :)

Japanese rice has its own flavour and It can be eaten with Noori and some fresh fish with some miso paste :)

I eat rice with curries and when I tasted the sushi it was a good experience.

Hmm, where's the ramen?

I don't know but for the JMSDF troops that are exposed to American food...they also love to gobble up some good ol' American style Country Food. And I can tell you, buddy, its finger licking GOOD!!

I can eat those corn bread, grits, and pork ribs anytime, any place....specially with Carolina style bbq sauce...

Japanese curry is not spicy and in fact very different from Indian curry.

If memory serves, the Japanese adopted the idea of rice with curry from the British back in the colonial days, which traces it to India.

But still, the recipe is very different.

But still, the recipe is very different.

They use some very basic spices and make it light. The Indian influence is there from the beginning during the spread of Buddism. They know Indian cuisines before British I think.

well it looks more ordinary than the Daily Japanese meals though. i thought, like most Japanese, their meals consist of Tempura/Ebi Furai, Miso Soup, Karaage, or Unagi Kabayaki. most importantly Miso Soup since you can't pass a day without it lols. i always thought the JMSDFs are having Katsudon everyday. i guess that only works for Salarymen :D

Only for those rich salarymen, buddy.

The boys can't afford to eat luxury, just the food that is rich in protein, and fiber, and high carbohydrates.
