LONDON: The 26-year-old US military veteran, suspected of shooting five people dead at Fort Lauderdale airport in United States, had told the FBI that he was being forced by a US intelligence agency to watch Daesh videos, according to CBS.

Gunman Esteban Santiago - an Iraq war veteran - opened fire in the baggage claim area at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Friday. He surrendered himself to the law enforcement, after having run out of ammunition, the Mail Online reported.

According to CBS, FBI confirmed in Nov. 2016 that Santiago walked into an FBI office in Anchorage, Alaska and claimed his mind was being controlled by a US intelligence agency and that he was being forced to watch videos for Daesh.

Santiago's relatives said the 26-year-old had a history of mental health issues - some of which followed his military service in Iraq several years ago.

He served from 2007 to 2016 in the Puerto Rico National Guard and Alaska National Guard including a deployment to Iraq from 2010 to 2011. He received half a dozen medals before receiving a general discharge for unsatisfactory performance in August last year.

His aunt Maria Ruiz told NorthJersey.com that Santiago had returned from Iraq acting strangely but had seemed happy after the birth of his child in September last year.

But she said something happened to him about a month ago and he was hospitalized for two weeks. She did not have details of his condition.

'Like a month ago, it was like he lost his mind. He said he saw things,' she said.

Santiago's brother Bryan Santiago said he could have suffered a 'flashback' from his time in Iraq, despite never being diagnosed with PTSD, NBC reports.

Police are investigating whether the suspect was mentally disturbed or if he had links to Daesh, after he executed five people in the baggage claim hall with a gun he had checked in his luggage.

The law enforcers say they are investigating a motive for the shooting spree. Officials of the FBI also said late Friday they had not ruled out terrorism and were investigating all angles.

CIA must have been trying to use him as a splinter cell inside Daesh or may be fight along side them to oust Syrian Head of state, may be plant groups as converts into enemy lines

The plan may have backfired, the man may have refused to get into this shady business and then his general may have given him a unsatisfactory discharge, they might have used that as a means to blackmail him into going to join Daesh as undercover agent

There were some rumors that CIA / agents were involved with Kurds as well . training and support

Very fishy stuff why would a guy who apparently "lost" his mind will have a planning capability to launch such a well orchestrated attack , showing clearly he was not a psycho but had a mind that could plan and execute

And what exactly is "Discharge for unsatisfactory performance"?

Why would CIA force him to watch DAESH videos?

Just in case they need to blame something on him a news article would come up

"Oh he watched such and such video of daesh on his computer or youtube"

Blackmail is the biggest weapon that is used by agencies like CIA /Mosad , the other approach is favor for their faction or political cause (Diplomatic or Weapon supply in future)

May be it was part of some undercover training you know if you are going to get planted in some "special" mission you have to learn to dress and behave like enemy

.
Well , hard to say if his behavior was induced after the Training to Join Daesh by CIA or before
From outside he looked normal

Notice, the story said after birth of his baby he was happy and normal but few weeks back something happened that snapped him again ?

But if he was insane why did he had a Military ID (Active one) ? And allowed to carry ammo in plane ? Who activated his Military ID so it is active and not state he was discharged Military guy

I can't carry a water bottle in plane unless I buy it three times the normal price in airport

Does CIA have a covert operation to arm Daesh , why were they making folks watch videos ? Raises more questions about the whole thing

BS...

There is another term for this....

PTSD

Santiago was reported to have suffered serious mental illness that might have been worsened by a military deployment to Iraq some six years ago. An FBI official in Florida said Santiago had turned himself in to the FBI in Anchorage last year, complaining that the CIA had taken control of his mind and was directing him to view ISIS material on the Internet. The FBI passed his name to Anchorage police, but what kind of treatment he received, if any, was not known.

Santiago didn't have much of a court record in Anchorage. But he was charged in an Anchorage domestic violence case in January 2016 when his girlfriend called police to complain that he had tried to bash in the bathroom door in her small home in Fairview on Medfra Street, according to a criminal complaint filed in Anchorage District Court. The girlfriend called police and reported that her boyfriend was angry and "was yelling at her while she was in the bathroom."

When an officer arrived, Santiago was gone. The bathroom door was smashed off the frame. Santiago was charged with assault and criminal mischief. The girlfriend said Santiago cursed her, ordered her to leave the place, tried to strangle her and smacked her on the side of her head. But the police officer reported he didn't see any injuries on her.

A month later, in February, Santiago was accused of violating his conditions of release on the January charges. Police checking up on him found him at the girlfriend's house, though he had been ordered as a condition of release to stay away unless police were at hand.

Santiago first appeared to be living in the home about a year ago along with a woman and two young children, said Pamela Van Dyke, who lives across the street with her two grandchildren. She said neighborhood children would play with the kids living in Santiago's home. But something about Santiago made Van Dyke uncomfortable, she said, and made her hesitant to let her own grandchildren play there.

"There was something not right," she said. "I could feel it."

. . . . .
It does sound a little too far-fetched though, come on. CIA forcing people to watch DAESH videos, is ridiculous .
But, again, something is not right about this story. CIA, shooting, giving himself up, his family/friends statements. his background etc.
