#FixIt campaigner Alamgir arrested in Karachi

Social media campaigner and the man behind the #FixIt campaign Alamgir Khan was arrested on Thursday as he got into a scuffle with the police outside the Sindh CM House in Karachi.

Alamgir was about to empty garbage bins outside the Sindh Chief Minister House in Karachi when police tried to stop him and eventually arrested him.

Alamgir made headlines when he sprayed stencils of Sindh CM Qaim Ali Shah’s face near open manholes of the city, urging him to fix them.

After a brief talk with police and a minor scuffle, the campaigner was taken away by police personnel.

Speaking to the media before his arrest, Alamgir said, “Karachi produces 12 tonnes of garbage on a daily basis; this garbage could be recycled to generate electricity and other useful products.”

“I cautioned the authorities in advance to take action and clean the garbage littered in the city, but it was not cleaned and I took the symbolic initiative of a peaceful protest against it,” Alamgir maintained.

“Instead of letting me know where I could spill the garbage, provincial authorities placed a container in my way and deployed police to bar me from reaching the CM House.”

“I am not here to harm the sanctity of CM House; I want them to realise how this garbage causes diseases and inconvenience to the citizens,” Alamgir added.

Meanwhile, supporters of the campaign gathered outside the Civil Lines Police Station, where the activist has reportedly been detained, and painted images of CM Shah to protest Alamgir’s arrest and demand his immediate release.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi leader Imran Ismail and other PTI workers are also present outside the police station to express solidarity with Alamgir.

Earlier on January 13, Alamgir invited the Sindh CM to “come see me if he [CM] needed to contact me,” saying Qaim Ali Shah would have to come where he had invited him.

Sir mera itna khoon kholta hai k is sheher pe kon klog hukumat kar rahe hain.......taky ka interest nh hain in logo ko khi me......ye log waderon ki badtareen nasal hain.......don't know why khi is being punished by God.

Poor chap is thinking he is living in civilized society but for his shock he find himself in front of Faroon k zamanay k cheap minister....after having good service by service shoes of head constable he can see shoe print on his nashist quite a long time....a good lesson for him not to protest in civilized manner in a un-civilized society.

Bring two three old tires set them fire to add more pollution and not to forget bringing truck load of bricks rest all the headless crowd understand and manged by burning few cars and ransacking Govt building..This is what we call protest..police never arrested such civilized protesters.

Actually he started very well, but he became a Gang leader in Gulshan Area, and now he assaulted policeman who tried to stop him.

That fool just gave a chance to arrest him otherwise he was already doing a great campaign though challenging the law and order and breaking the rule is not allowed even if the cause was for public awareness. Remember, avoid conflict with Government and record the protest only for awareness within the boundaries of law, is better way to do so and keep it going. Best of luck for him for his campaign which indeed be applauded and he is like a guest now so will be out soon.

Let the FIR be lodged, details will be out about sections which may include assault if he has done otherwise there will more protests and Shah Saab would't like it to be a political fight.

PPP feudal lords think they have a divine right over karachi ..and the same applies all over pakistan Until the day people of rural pakistan are released from the clutches of these fuedal lords they same gene of politicians will keep on appearing .. The vote which matter in pakistan is the rural pakistanis vote thats where the majority lives and these few fuedal lords have full control over a large majority of Pakistanis
