The Five great obstacles we face are

1) We are not enough partiotic (when not threatend)

2) We do not have eco system like US which attracts talent from all world and retains it.

3) We dont have complete faith in our own capability. Remember the maiden test of Agni 5. Many members were sure it will fail. That's just one example.

4) Baba Vakya Pramanam culture that prevails in India at large even now.Such atmosphere in our nation demoralize new ideas and turn once briliant student into a common Clerk/Officer. There is no wrong in respecting elders and their advcie, but we should use our own intellect too. Then we, in schools, end up copying each other's essays (Except the Present Company).

5) There is something wrong within us which leads us to believe we can not build anything which is world class and are victim of inferiortiy complex, which partly stems from our dislike of own colour. This complex is very old. There is reason why Krishna is dark skinned.

But gladly with rise of India, Chandrayaan1 and Mangalyan thats changing.

If we fix these five problems, we will rise like eagle and Shine like Surya Naryan.

Our only problem is our old generation sitting idly in our prestigwous institutions. Second is our laws which is not entrepreneurial. Third, our laid back attitude.

I think that all of these will be addressed in time as India grows and the expectations of the country grow both externally and internally. In pretty much all five points their reversals are the product of success and prosperity and not the cause of it, just believing you are great won't get you anywhere.

Corruption???
Have no doubt that we have the talent and the will, but we dont have an infrastructure that supports budding talents. And corruption within the system waters down almost every policy passed with a good intention. Lack of good leaders also exacerbates the situation.

I have not voted as corruption is not mentioned in the list.

Problem is our lopsided, retarded education system which focuses on ratafication and less on creativity. SO people end up studying and studying doing graduation, post graduation and finally end up with a job which is completely unrelated to his education ...

Thats right. I hope this will change and it is already changing.

There are plans to make Govt employees work longer.

On the contrary, we are too partiotic / filled with too much pride (religious pride, political pride, cast...), which leads to overambitious projects, overestimations of our capabilities and not using what we have in the best manner and that limits us the most!
The indigenous defence industry with DRDO as the prime example has proven this several times and even the examples with Chandrayaan1 and Mangalyan shows this pretty well too, because other than serving partiotic / pride reasons, these projects didn't helped India much. We can develop rockets with highly advanced propulsions that can be send to the Moon and the Mars, but fail to develop a jet engine, have not a single properly developed fixed wing civil or defence aircraft, so where is the relation?
Instead of reaching to the Mars shouldn't we take these scientists and improve our aviation industry and the indigenous technology around it, to actually improve India don't you think? Also the Chandrayaan1 and Mangalyan didn't got us any financial benefits, but the fact that we have developed rockets that can transport foreign satellites at very low costs into the orbit, gets us huge returns. Obviously the pride factor for that is much lower, than for being at the Mars, but the actual benefit for the country is much bigger.
Indias rise is not based on whatever other coutries achieve and how close we can get to the same achievements, but how fast we improve India as a country itself! Achievements like the constant growth of the economy, constant reduction of poverty and increase of middle class, even that India is today able to effectively fight diseases (HIV and Malaria reduced, Polio gone) have more effect on raising the country than projects that have too much pride in it.

We have the manpower, we have plenty of smart people, we have a great potential with the young demographic, we only have to use it in a better way, by taking what we have and constantly improving it, rather that reaching too far without even haven done the basics. When we learn to simplify things and make things effectively and in an efficient manner, India will succeed!

There is something like building Image in International Arena.

Besides these sucesses will and have attracted talented youth towards ISRO.

@IND151 making govt employee work longer is part of the solution but not the whole of it. There has to be more task masters in our govt. We need lathi approach for those people.especially the workers in state govt offices are just third class. They sit on files like hippos.

The image doesn't make us more capable right? India today has not only highly capable doctors and a good medicial field (if you can afford it), but also the capabilities to develop very good meds at low costs. This is not an achievement of our image in the world, but a result of the work we put into education or science in these fields. That's why foreigners now come to India to get treatments or surgeries that are not only cheaper, but comparable with high western standards too. So even if we still have the image of a 3rd world country with all the poverty, there are fields wer we can stand out and rise.

Also even if these missions attracted more talent, the important thing is how we will use them with the best benefit for India in mind? Do we use them for another mission to Mars, or do we use them to improve the capabilities of our rockets for more commercial success, to get our own navigation system in equal or better quality than foreign once, to finally have a proper aviation industry that makes us less dependent on foreign imports?

The more solutions we find for the problems we have in India, the more we can rise as a nation. But pride alone doesn't solve these problems.

True, the push to improve bureaucracy of the PM is crucial, but worthless if he doesn't push the accountability too. It's not enough that they work, but they have to deliver results too!

The problem is because employee is not utilizing their time for productivity. If some one gets a government job, they think their future is safe and is very lazy to do things.. Only solution is make them accountable.. For eg: here in Kerala issuing of birth, death and many other certificates were an issue. Govt employees used to ask people to come next day for apprarently no reason. Now govt issued rule to provide certificates with in a certain period of time or otherwise will have to give the reason to supervisor.. Now getting a certificate from village is comparitavely easy than before.. But the issue is still there. I for one requested a resurvey of my fathers land 2 years ago and that is still in process..

India's rise. Depends, will Modi make the right choice or the popular choice? They are rarely the same.

I just saw a documentary on Bangladesh, the working conditions are pretty life threatening, but through their taxes, their savings for their children, and the factory developing more skilled workers, Bangledesh is souring in growth.

The cancer village in China, probably real, and even if it isn't, I know for a fact a few other terrible things have existed in China, like Japan before us, and America, and Britain who started it all.

That's the price one pays for being on the bottom of the food chain, will Modi be willing to pay it? Hard to say, from all that I seen, he wants to develop "humanely," if he can do it, that's great for everyone, another pollution giant, isn't exactly what the world needs. Is it feasible? Hard to say.
