First US Pakistani for Congress

.
Rhetoric does eventually translate into politics

As I said, you can have a different opinion. My experience suggests that rhetoric is only for the show. The real go remains pretty free from it.

. .
It does not matter. We should have Pakistanis in both parties. Enough of the zero-sum game. We are already way behind in influencing US politics in our favor.

Fair enough, but the problem arises when the elected congresscritters do what is best for their constituents, without the Pakistani lens that many here expect them to wear.

Interesting how Muslim Congresspersons are all progressive Democrats with leftist views. You would think Muslims would be more at home with conservative Republicans.

It shouldn't be surprising that Muslims usually lean towards the left. Most Muslims support welfare, equality, strong regulations and public healthcare, education and transport. All of the points that I mentioned are perfectly in accordance with Islam. Waving rainbow flags doesn't make one a progressive.

You can thank the republican rhetoric and messaging for developing that view amongst their voter base.

So even if with conservative views muslims have had to shift to dems for the inclusion aspect if not for the PC and cancel culture attitudes.

Until we come to LGBTQ and reproductive health issues.

Well another 100 needed to get somewhere. :D

Those too have been “adapted” on the surface for inclusivity. You will see it not just in muslim representation in politics but also in media.

To your point - rhetoric will not echo political realities

So we agree? Imagine that! :D

Yes - we agree that in reality republicans have to reach out to both muslim constituents and foreign relations abroad. But whether you agree that in reality that the remaining 99.8% of republican voters today of which a large section are influenced by both extremist evangelical thought and otherwise that Muslims are evil will ever vote for a muslim republican candidate remains to be seen.

Fair enough, the next midterms and 2024 elections will be quite important, given your comment above.

Muslims disagree with both spectrums when it comes to abortion. There are scenarios where abortion is not only permissible but sometimes even encouraged.

That is where the media rhetoric and the generally centrist nature of US society comes into play, as I alluded above. Regardless of the religious arguments, it is the politics that matter in elections.
