First Russian troops reach Minsk to join Belarusian forces to defend against Ukraine​

The first batch of Russian troops arrived in Belarus on October 15, 2022, to join forces with what Minsk says is a regional grouping to protect its border against Ukraine and the West. About 9,000 Russian soldiers are eventually expected to be stationed in the country, along Ukraine’s northern border.
