What's new

Firepower of K9 Vajra

And also needed is that contradiction in terms - the mobile air defence systems. Something a step beyond 12.7 mm machine guns, MANPADs or Schilkas.

Dependency on 12.7mm AA HMG made us suffer in Jaisalmer in 1971. These guns were out of date even 50 years ago.

MANPADs....having a max range of 5 kms, again, wont be good.

Schilkas are good as far as mobility is concerned, but again, there are quad GUNS....guns are not useful nowadays.

PA is going for Pantsir, which is a true mobile AD system for mobile forces.

Dear, its not that easy.
1st, defence in Sindh sector are well configured with regards to terrain. Its an almost 5-Division worth of force now. Armor component equals to more than a regular armored division.

Moreover, once mobilization is ordered, it will be ordered across the country, so formations of Sind sector will also move to take up defences. Its one and the same move everywhere.
You paint an impenetrable picture for IA. What would you suggest in this situation if you are on the receiving end of such an offence.

If you say so. I have no accurate idea. I do know that we got where we did over decades of development.

Dad's dorm-mate in IISc was studying metallurgy, this would have been the 70s. Will have to ask my dad if he got in touch with him again....he's been re-finding lot of his old pals on social media lately.

No defence has proven to be impenetrable. An intelligent enemy always targets your vulnerabilities.

Otherwise in peacetime, every army, big or small, believes itself to be invincible.

I hope our Pantsir is SM version

No.

if you are on the receiving end of such an offence.

Which offence?:o:

. . .
"PAF opens up the war by systematically destroying all major bridges in Indian territory within 200 kms of the international border."

Oh, you meant "offensive", for a second i thought i was an offender.:(

Wise thing to do is that, since surprise has been achieved, better is to keep your assets safe, they should not be sitting vulnerable in the open, and try to get the other side's aircraft once they are going back or low on fuel. Deliberate retaliation comes after the first strike.

Oh Man. This is the best version with large tracking and engagement range

If you are willing to donate your pocket money for this month, SM version can be bought.:yahoo:

Not enough...you need mobile layered short to mid range AD...which is why specific mobile AD system like QRSAM and Akash NG for army are being made

For air artillery/MANPADS mobile FCR

After our experience with Panter, Turkish artillery systems are not very likely. Only USA enjoys the privilege of stabbibg us (not saying that Turkey really stabbed us but hey, we are not using Panter are we?) over and over and over again!

Were they sleeping on 27the February?
Were we sleeping on 26th?

Surprise attack, preemptive strikes. There is just so much you can do against those!
Well Turkey is using 400 of PANTER so if we don't like it doesn't mean they were bad

@ni8mare

These are stock pictures from sales brochures. Delightful things that go whizz-bang on demonstration in ranges. Are they deployed? No; they 'are being made'.

Tell you what; let's ask the PA, P-AD and PAF to hang on a bit while we tie our shoelaces, and get these weapons fully manufactured, tested, operators trained and deployed. I'm sure those nice chaps will wait for us; they always have done. Remember Kutch 65, Gibraltar 65, Grand Slam 65, Kargil 99?

Spend some time planning bases 100 kms from the border, opposite their points of concentration (100 kms being the range for the next step beyond tubed artillery); build multiple roads and redundant road tracks and matched type 40 bridges; build Air Defence systems that protect these works effectively; build supporting airbases and locate interceptors at those airbases; stock up materiel worth 7 to 10 days' stocks; ensure high-speed priority repatriation of officers on leave, within 24 hours, using air resources as needed; hope like hell there is no World Yoga Day when the PAF decides to test its smart bombs.
