There was a minor fire on board India’s aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya on Saturday morning, a Navy spokesperson said.
The fire was doused and all personnel on board are safe, the spokesperson said in a statement here. “The duty staff observed smoke emanating from the part of the warship having accommodation for sailors. The ship’s duty personnel acted promptly to fight the fire. All personnel on board have been accounted for and no major damage has been reported,” the statement read.
An inquiry into the incident is being ordered, he said, adding the aircraft carrier is in Karnataka’s Karwar harbour.

The warship is a modified Kiev-class aircraft carrier purchased by India from Russia in 2013 and was renamed in honour of Vikramaditya, the legendary emperor.
Originally built as Baku and commissioned in 1987, the carrier served with the Soviet (until the dissolution of the Soviet Union) and Russian Navies before being decommissioned in 1996, it being too expensive to operate.
INS Vikramaditya, a floating airfield, has an overall length of 284 metres and a maximum beam of 60 metres, stretching as much as three football fields put together.

Standing about 20 storeys tall from the keel to the highest point, the ship has a total of 22 decks and carries around 1,600 personnel.

These accidents are emblamatic of our aging fleet. It's embarassing to read such news with such consistent periodicity.

It's understandable to have some teething issues for a transforming navy, but such accidents and that too on a regular basis erode trust. Hopefully, each one should be the last of its kind and lessons learners should be etched in stone.

Looks like a human error not a technical fault with machinery however only investigation can reveal the true problem.

.
And India still wants to build second carrier?

The entire ship is one big organism, it's functioning dependant on each constituent and its effectiveness as able as its weakest link, human or otherwise.
And India still wants to build second carrier?
Perfection in everything with zero error might be the characteristics of the CCP but us mortals have to stumble our way to a working solution.

You guys are really terrible when it comes maintenance and it reflect in your navy and airforce. You guys didn't know the exact time to dispose things.

It's always need vs cost, most of the time economic considerations will play a larger role.

Our navy is in its transformative stage, teething problems are a given, whether we are learning and adapting is the real issue.

How do you expect to dispose things off when there's nothing to fill the gap!!

Its mean not only Indian maintenance team but also planning team is not have capacity to identify, when and what is required in a timeline. That is not a good picture for your country.

No matter how much Pakistani members bash Indian aircraft carriers, the lethality of this machine is for all to see in 1971.
Never mess with the Indian navy.

Few saturation strikes by f-16 and JFT armed with CM-400Akg/C-802/Harpoons and ànd your carrier battle groups will rest in peace in the depth of Indian ocean/Arabian Sea

The world has changed alot since 70s and so have our forces. We won't be fighting 1000 miles away from home neither will our lone squadron be pitched against 11 IAF sqd.
