Finally ECP confirms that election rigging took place

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has affirmed that polls were, either partially or fully, rigged in at least 20 constituencies during the last general elections in the country, ARY News reported.

The ECP in its report on Friday stated that elections were rigged in at least 20 constituencies during the General Elections 2013. The constituencies in which irregularities took place include seven national and thirteen provincial circles.

The election commission has ordered for re-polling in five out of twenty constituencies and re-counting of votes in one.

The candidates who were declared ineligible due to their involvement in rigging of polls include PMLN, PPP and independent nominees, which later joined the ruling party.

The report has come at a time, when PTI is staging a sit-in in Islamabad and holding countrywide mass rallies, in protest against rigging of elections.

On the other hand, PPP has also admitted irregularities in the last general elections, with its leadership terming the elections as RO’s elections.

The report is expected to gear-up PTI’s struggle, however the rulers are likely to put the matter in pending as they have done with other issues

11 of the 17 constituencies opened saw a re-election. 5 of the 17 saw partial re-election. Indeed this wasnt a random sample. But if this is the level of discrepancy which has come forward then why not have a random sample to judge if there was a fairplay in elections 2013?

No need for mid-term elections with current failed ECP. A complete new ECP must be formed before real elections take place. 2013 elections must be declared null and void by courts.

Yes! There needs to be a proper ruling by the courts, the ECP has to be formed constitutionally, and a proper census has to be done. This will all take some time.

Not sure how it will be done as Noora will control all stakes as he did last time since his party was in power in Punjab. Now he is sitting in both Centre and Punjab and I have got no idea what he will do this time, despite all these 'Go Nawaz Go' slogans.
