China's leadership has been hit by a fresh scandal ahead of a 10-yearly power handover, with reports a close ally of the president was demoted following his son's death in a Ferrari crash.
China said at the weekend that Ling Jihua, who has close ties to outgoing President Hu Jintao, had been removed as head of the Communist party's powerful Politburo general office and given a new, less high-profile post.

Reports of the crash first surfaced in March on China's popular microblogs, along with speculation that the son of a senior Communist leader had been involved, but were quickly suppressed by the country's army of online censors.
Photographs of the wreckage were briefly circulated online, sparking questions about how the son of a government official could afford a luxury sports car worth a reported five million yuan (around $800,000).
Online searches for the words "Ferrari crash" have been blocked in China ever since, underscoring the huge sensitivity of the issue ahead of the Communist Party leadership handover later this year.

Any comment?

btw, seems the Great Firewall is running at 120%...i had great difficulties obtaining this image and when i clicked to enlarge, the server timed out/cycled in a loop of some kind. Pic is from site with Vietnam tags. And this same story happened with both pics that i found from separate sources. Going the Ddos way now?

:police: Beloved Hu Songshan: if you delete ill ask elsewhere. Just wanted Chinese folk opinion first.

More baseless myths and slanderous stories from American media...
oh I meant "news".

As they say:
A bag of rice falls over and FOX news headlines would shout
"Chinese economy has hit the ground! This time for real!".

I know westerners love pointing the finger at China when it comes down to corruption and censorship. Chinese people know about this so what comment do you expect from Chinese members here? You see even if we know there's corruption in Western countries we wouldn't be the first one to be pointing at you guys looking for a sensation. So the son of a party member crashed a Ferrari, it could be corruption or maybe not.

Shouldn't you be worrying about America?

On November 10, 2008 Richard Fuld (one of the keypeople of Lehman Brothers) transferred his Florida mansion to his wife Kathleen for $100 in order to protect the house from potential legal actions against him. They had bought it four years earlier for $13.75 million.

These mega bankruptcy and corruption scandals in America comparing with the owner of the crashed Ferrari.

At least they didn't use the bribe money to get a ford, now if they did, I'd be really upset.

But seriously, such a nice car, what a waste!!

I see a boat load of deflecting....

crashing a Ferrari isn't the story here.....story is that the guy probably high on coke and booze was speeding through beijing while getting a blowjob-i read reports that 2 women were killed, one of them was naked-probably ejected out of the car due to the force of the crash.
Story is how a government's official's son could afford the 800.000$. though to be honest it doesnt look like it's worth that much, so it's likely to be an exaggeration.

Now for the people who say this is a product of western media, the story and the pic first appeared on Chinese sites where it was quickly taken down, and thats why you can accuse me of providing only west. gov. propaganda. That's a story too, why doesnt your gov. want to see what the youth of your leaders are doing.

Feel free to start a Lehman bros/Enron thread....i'll come and bash the .gov there too.

Where did it say the two female passengers were killed? Couldn't find it anywhere in the articles I read nor on your link. Thanks.

And to be fair, the corruption you see now in China's highest political circles is a step above simple misappropriations of government funds. It's simply the ability of the political and business elite in China to benefit from insider knowledge and connections with influential figures, enriching themselves through lucrative government contracts and the military-industrial complex.

So a child from a rich family killing himself in a car crash is not as much of a political scandal as one may assume. Unless there was evidence that the Ferrari was bought using government funds.

China needs the occupy movement more than anyone else, I think.

If sensitive issue is blocked in China I wonder how the Chinese posters are arguing here .
it is hilarious to think about the Chinese blogs.

Ferrari crash link to China leader exposed
September 4, 2012
John Garnaut, Beijing

A SORDID tragedy involving a 20-something playboy, two scantily-clad women and a two-seater Ferrari has once again exposed the Communist Party's challenges in hiding its dirty laundry in the information age.
The black Ferrari 458 Spider, reportedly bought for close to $1 million, was travelling so fast along Beijing's North Fourth Ring Road that it split in two when it smashed into the Baofusi Bridge about 4am on Sunday, March 18.
A photograph of the tangled, smouldering engine block - resting far from the main car body - was published in the Beijing Evening News and immediately spread across the internet. The paper reported the driver was killed and two female passengers seriously injured.
But what might have been a tale of unbridled wealth and power quickly became one of political intrigue when propaganda authorities blocked relevant search terms including ''Ferrari'' and refused to confirm the driver's name.

Yesterday, after 5½ months without any official clarification, the story landed for the first time on the front page of a mainstream newspaper - just weeks away from the 18th Party Congress and its once-in-a-decade leadership transition.
The South China Morning Post reported the driver was Ling Gu, the son of Chinese President Hu Jintao's most trusted political fixer, Ling Jihua.
The passengers were ethnic Tibetan and Uighur students from Beijing's Minzu University, one of whom was now paralysed.
Professor Miao Di, at the Communication University of China, said those in power were not helping themselves by covering up scandals that could be exposed by netizens and mainstream media. ''But it seems the Chinese Communist Party hasn't thought of any better ideas,'' he said.
The Post reported the Ferrari story after Mr Ling was shifted on Saturday from running the party's all-important General Office to running the United Front Work Department, a move that would seem to scupper his chances for promotion.
''Many believe the two issues are related,'' said Zhou Zhixing, a well-connected intellectual who runs the Gongshi website.
Mr Ling will be replaced by the former party chief of Guizhou province, Li Zhanshu, who has ties to Mr Hu and also his anointed successor Xi Jinping.
The Post said investigators changed the driver's name on Mr Ling's death certificate to ''Jia'', which had led to speculation he was the son of Jia Qinglin, an ally of Mr Hu's rival for power, former president Jiang Zemin.
It said Mr Jia was furious and handed a report to Mr Jiang, his patron, who sat on it for three months before using it to advantage.
The objectivity of the Post itself has come into question because of the editor and owner's ties to Communist Party organisations.
Many Chinese political watchers and several Western diplomats became convinced Mr Ling's son was the driver in the weeks after it was first reported by overseas website Boxun in June.
The incident is another dent in the party's efforts to present a united image ahead of the 18th Party Congress, following the downfall of Politburo member Bo Xilai. Mr Bo was toppled after his police chief claimed to US diplomats he had attempted to cover up his wife's murder of Englishman Neil Heywood.
Ms Gu was last month convicted of murder.

You just dig and search any negative news about china, then can't wait to post it here? Right!!

On the topic:
Political scandal, it is about corruption, about power abuse, in china, such official is too much. I also hate the officials.

Off the topic:
Whatever, CCP and you both suck!

^^ lol great post! :enjoy:

Sounds like you missed that early morning group relaxation exercise the Chinese are famous about.

And personally i have no ill wishes for you or your country, i just like to put things in perspective. If i really really wanted to bash i could dig up crap and post about it everyday, but i dont.
Bottom line, if we had no independent sources on China you guys would be selling us CCP stories how (best) milk and (best) honey flow magically everywhere in China.
