Updated at: 1247 PST, Wednesday, November 04, 2009
ISLAMABAD: A special session of federal cabinet has begun to discuss two holidays in a week for all public sector institutions. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is presiding the meeting.

The federal cabinet is also expected to place a massive cut on a daily expenditure of the president, the prime minister, federal ministers and chief ministers of the four provinces under the proposed austerity drive, to be approved in the special cabinet meeting.

The agenda of the special cabinet meeting revealed that the prime focus of the meeting would be on the approval and implementation of austerity measures. According to the agenda, the austerity measures would be introduced to cut government expenses through administrative and management adjustment in the current system.

The other three items on the agenda are the approval of a sugar policy, gas load management plan 2009-10 and the review of paddy procurement in the 2009 Kharif season.

what a decision, thrid world countries need to work as hard and as much as possible to stand on their feet and get out of miseries, one day in a week is enough. and cutting on president/pm is also not a good move, it will open more doors for theft and corruption.

What do you mean, these people go for corrupt deals after checking their pay-slips? BS.

As we know very well, Indian and Pakistani politicians will just gather as much as they can. Doesn't matter even if the government pays them a fortune as a legal salary. :hitwall:

I don't like this decision. We need to work hard and get on our feet. This is not right! not now!

In Dubai there are 2 day official weekend (Friday/Saturday). There is limited operations on Saturday, but the staff is paid overtime for the full day they work.

I've worked 6 days a week for years. It's no good. Usually we're dead beat by the weekend, end up sleeping throughout Friday and then by Saturday its a new work week again. We couldn't get anything done, business or pleasure.

After a while you start losing productivity

The decision is being taken due to some factors which are thought to get affected if one day holiday is added to the week. Its won't be permanent thing. Just till the factors are controlled or some betterment is seen in them. And as for cutting the budgets or expenditures attracting more corruption is very hard to explain. Its a very simple rule, the more budget you have, the more money will go in waste and to corruption. The less budget you have, the less wastage and can easily be managed and looked after and easily audited too. Looking at the current situation kind of a little bit positive move depending on its implementation as our politicians are wasting a hell lot of money on their luxuries while the country is crying for help and relief. We have 100+ politicians who are enjoying the privileges of a state/federal minister, the number in provincial assemblies is unbelievable.
