A delegation of 24 students and 4 faculty members from the Forman Christian College, Gulberg, are touring India these days. This tour which has not been covered by press as yet, nor have the details of the formalities of this tour been announced, has been delegated by the Dean of the Geography Departments Geography Club and Adventure Society .
At a sensitive time like now, when the LoC has been a constant source of contention between the two countries; when India has been busy in leaving not leaf unturned in the endeavor to destabilize our country, in the wake of the ill-fate it foresees beyond the 2014 withdrawal scenario; and at the event of the 5th Feb, Solidarity with Kashmir day that has been celebrated with fervor between the two brother nations of Pakistan and Kashmir; and now with another kill-spree of Afzal Guru by the Indian government that has arouse great fury and protest in Kashmir; the Forman Christian College, Lahore, has certainly picked a discordant time to board the AmanKiAsha train to India, leaving at its back a divided and angry country, confused at who their friends and foes are.
On Friday 8th Feb. the delegation was due to visit the Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi, below is a press release of the Jamia:
Reports have arrived at the PKKH desk that the delegation has shown an arrogant and inappropriate behavior towards a group of Kashmiri students of the same institution, once they tried to take their views over the Kashmir and the LoC issues. It has been reported that a group of Kashmiri students were waiting for 2 hours to meet this delegation from Pakistan, and when they finally turned up from the seminar and the Kashmiri students tried to coincide with their Pakistani counter-parts, the arrogant Formanites replied, India is incredible, we are not here to talk about Kashmir. And on the question of the LoC they replied we are not here for your politics but to develop good relations with India. After this the Kashmiris walked out in protest. It is reported that the Formanites have demonstrated a pure love India rhetoric so far in the tour.
We understand at PKKH, that student delegations are meant for peace-promotion and confidence-building, and we suppose that the members of the delegation must have responded just as they must have been guided by their institution, so any blame for such misconduct does not go to the students, but to the program and its organizers.
The Forman Christian College, Lahore, a charted University, runs such programs under its affiliation as FORMAN CHRISTIAN COLLEGE MODEL UNITED NATIONS [Source]. It was prerequisite to sending any delegation from the college abroad to any country, that the members of the delegation should have been trained and versed in the right diplomatic ways that would defend and uphold the basic virtues of any Pakistani delegation in matters of it integrity as a nation and as a matter of deterrence in the prime issues that the nation faces in its national, regional and global matters. The FC College has no legality of precedence of upholding the UN model above the Pakistan model.
Blind love for India, and mottos like Accepting Differences, Celebrating Diversity, disregarding real-time situations is unacceptable.
