ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has collected more than Rs1,000 billion revenue during the first quarter (July-Sept) of the current fiscal year (FY2020-21).
According to sources, the tax department collected Rs1,002 billion during the period under review, as against the target of Rs970 billion.
The tax department had collected Rs593bn during the first two month of FY21, while collection in September stood at Rs408bn, as against target of Rs418 billion.
Sources said that revenue collection during the quarter increased due to resumption of economic activities post Covid lockdowns.
Meanwhile, the department has also intensified its crackdown on defaulters and tax evaders.
On Wednesday, the FBR’s Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation-Inland Revenue (Lahore) raided the business premises of a shoe manufacturing unit under Section 38 and 40 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990.
The unit was engaged in manufacturing activities, making taxable supplies of footwear etc while consuming huge amounts of raw materials and electricity. However, the unit had been deliberately filed “nil” sales tax returns since July 2015 to avoid payment of due sales tax.
During the search, important record was impounded which is under scrutiny while further investigation in this regard is underway. The directorate intends to intensify such operations in order to detect tax fraud and stop huge revenue leakage being caused to the national exchequer.

. . . .
Well done Imran Khan and PTI.

At this rate we should hopefully meet target of 5tr

Budget for FY21 is 7.14 trillion - Collection of 1 trillion in quarter is indication that FBR will miss annual target by 3 trillion.

Edit: Tax Revenue target is 5.5 trillion,

.
FBR only collects 70%-80% of government revenue rest come from other sources.

Many of us have been saying this from the start of the PTI's term as a ruling party - they will need time to fix the myriad issues that have built up over decades.

Even one term of 5 years is not going to be enough. It should be enough for us to see a change in direction, but bigger results will require the PTI to win a second 5 year term with a larger majority, and hopefully be able to form a government in Sindh as well.

That's not how tax collection works. FBR surpassed their target for the first quarter. The targets for third and fourth quarters are the highest because traditionally that is when companies and individuals file their taxes for the year.

Also tax is just one aspect of revenue collection.

I already edit my previous post and mentioned target of FBR for this is year is 5.5T - Last year budgeted target was 5.82T then it was revised down to 4.20T which again was revised down to 3.90T and FBR was making fool of public by claiming that that it collected 88b more than target and showing it as performance.

That's not how tax collection works. FBR surpassed their target for the first quarter. The targets for third and fourth quarters are the highest because traditionally that is when companies and individuals file their taxes for the year.

62% of Tax revenue are Indirect taxes and significant portion of indirect taxes is paid by consumer but remains in corporate pockets for long time. If FBR start collecting these indirect taxes honestly and on time then they can easily achieve their target only from indirect taxes - plugging theft in indirect taxes will indirectly also cater theft of direct taxes. But expecting that crooks in FBR will become honest just because IK is Prime Minister is living in fools paradise.

Also tax is just one aspect of revenue collection.

It's almost the only source of revenue - 1.1T budgeted from other sources will be eaten up by haramkhoor PSEs
