A father in Austria who had enough of paying his daughter’s tuition fees took her to court to have his debt repaid.

The man claimed his daughter studying architecture at the University of Vienna had taken too long to complete her degree. He successfully sued her to repay the tuition fees totaling over $25,000.

On an average it should take eight semesters to complete the degree, however, his daughter took a total of a 13 semesters to do the same.

The father previously took the case to the country’s lower courts where he lost. Frustrated, he took the case to the Supreme Court. The court sided with the father, and decided his claims were legitimate. They ruled that he was only liable to pay for 10 of the 13 semesters.

The daughter will have to pay her father over $25,000 and separately pay over $8500 in legal fees.

This case might seem unusual but is far from isolated. The firm representing the father stated they have had six similar lawsuits in the last two years.

Last kids should know that hard working parents are not a free ride.
Personally never failed a subject at uni. Sailed through it and had the best time

A sign of the times !
Nothing surprising here, some of the westerners think ppl should work hard for their own education or living once they become adults 16+. Parents might be better off but they wont go to the extent of selling of property or assets to educate their children. They will simply think about their retirement or yearly vacation! Neither do they expect children to look after them. In this case it is really surprising at least the father paid for the fees. Now if you stretch it bit far you are in trouble.

Did she want to go to be an Architect, or did her father want her to get a college degree?
