A father in Austria who had enough of paying his daughter’s tuition fees took her to court to have his debt repaid.
The man claimed his daughter studying architecture at the University of Vienna had taken too long to complete her degree. He successfully sued her to repay the tuition fees totaling over $25,000.
Oxford graduate sues university for £1m over failure to secure a first
On an average it should take eight semesters to complete the degree, however, his daughter took a total of a 13 semesters to do the same.
The father previously took the case to the country’s lower courts where he lost. Frustrated, he took the case to the Supreme Court. The court sided with the father, and decided his claims were legitimate. They ruled that he was only liable to pay for 10 of the 13 semesters.
Close ad X
The daughter will have to pay her father over $25,000 and separately pay over $8500 in legal fees.
This case might seem unusual but is far from isolated. The firm representing the father stated they have had six similar lawsuits in the last two years.
