ISLAMABAD - FATF rejects Indian bid to blacklist Pakistan over terror financing he Financial Task Force (FATF) has recognized Pakistan’s efforts in curbing money laundering and terror financing.

FATF said on Friday that Pakistan had taken laudable steps towards countering financing of terrorism (CFT) and anti-money laundering (AML) regime. It vowed to work in collaboration with Pakistan to curb such activities in the future.

Pakistan is currently taking legal and strategic steps to get off the FATF’s greylist and improve its trade and foreign investment.

The recent FATF meeting brought another success for Pakistan on the diplomatic front as the financial watchdog turned down India’s efforts to place Pakistan on the blacklist for ‘harbouring and patronizing terrorism.’

The international body accepted that since mid-2018, Pakistan had taken steps to improve its AML and CFT regime and has operationalized the integrated database for its currency declaration.

FATF noted that Pakistan has revised its terror financing (TF) risk assessment but “did not demonstrate a proper understanding of the TF risks posed by Da’esh, al Qaeda, Jamat-ut-Dawa (JuD), Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FiF), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Haqqani Network and persons affiliated with the Taliban.”

Note that the government banned JuD and FiF on Thursday during a high-level National Security Committee (NSC) meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair.

The global watchdog, however, urged Pakistan to show sanctions being applied on money laundering and terrorism financing.

“Given the limited progress on action plan items due in January 2019, the FATF urges Pakistan to swiftly complete its action plan, particularly those with timelines of May 2019,” it concluded.

Lastly, I was reading that India is preparing a dossier against Pakistan to submit before FATF? which doesn't work, it seems.

Long way to get off the grey list. May be that's why NSC took that meeting. Unless Pakistan comes out of this...foreign investment won't come from European countries.

We need to get off the Grey list. It's hurting us economically.

FATF grey list is mostly about conditions or rather restrictions on getting credit/loans from donor institutions like IMF, WB, ADB and others, IMF tough conditions is a case in point.

Pakistan must have taken this clause and the FATF grey list issue to Saudia, UAE, China and to Turkey and Malaysia...and sought help, might be one reason Saudia and UAE were forthcoming, helping out of way. Blessing in disguise here...

It also rejected Pakistan's bid to remove it from the grey list. :) :p

On a serious note its good that the FATF has highlighted that Pakistan has taken positive steps combatting terror financing however I feel that we can make our case a lot stronger by passing stringent anti money laundering laws... The entire lime light is based on terror but its also about money laundering and sadly we haven't made any positive steps towards combatting and punishing money laundering. A legislation to create a proper mechanism to combat and stop money laundering will help push our case even more so...
Waisay i have no faith in this organization and find it extremely political. However its a fact that the grey list entry is hurting our economy and black list entry will hurt us economically even more so we should take every step we can to leave the grey list...

Rather than fixating on terror financing I think we should take the anti money laundering directive as well and with it catch a few big wigs in Pakistan namely a guy that ruined us in 2008-2013

As for India... Dossiers require absolute proof for them to play a part and proof that is not in the awareness of the FATF already. Most likely they showed nothing that they didn't know. Rolled their eyes and continued the deliberation.

Your people seem to have actually bought into the state's delusions that they are some kind of a super power which can bring any self respecting state or organization to its knees within a day. :omghaha:

Like, it's too funny. Here are some examples.

  1. Boycott IOC! India should host its own Olympic event and invite everyone except Pakistan!
  2. BCCI must withdraw from ICC and send them a message!
  3. China did what in UNSC!? Ban all Chinese goods! It will bring them to their knees within a day!
  4. Here's another good one: India needs to scrap UNSC with other nations and make a new council with new powers like Israel, Germany, India... Etc, one without China!
  5. India as revenge should immediately take over Pakistan's Kashmir!
That's just courtesy of TOI, lmao. And there's so much more, on top of that the constant war mongering by Indian media, pure entertainment. I also found it funny that when you search TOI, they have a whole section dedicated to Pakistan, the obsession.

I am telling you, when you hype this much on such sensitive war games, and then don't deliver anything, there's going to be a huge identity crisis, and a wave of complete demoralization, from the public to the military.

I just can't wait for that huge hype bubble India has created to burst hitting everyone with a nice good demoralizing dose of reality. Good job! India did the psychological damage for Pakistan :omghaha:

The problem is that the 'charitable organizations' are run by a different set of people (not by Azhar or Hafiz Saeed or 'militants'), who actually do a decent job of delivering services (disaster relief, madrassa's etc) under the ambit of these organizations. The organization gets banned, but the individuals that are actually responsible for the day to day operations of these organizations are neither militants nor involved in any violent activities. They do have loyalty towards the 'parent organization and leadership', but they have committed no crime.

So when an organization gets banned, theoretically there's nothing stopping the 'non criminal management' to create a new organization, retain their contacts, start fund raising under the new name and build up again. It's not like they're going to register the new organizations in the name of Azhar or Hafiz Saeed. That's the complicated part of this - it's like playing wack a mole.

If one look at the countries which are in the FATF Blacklist...N.Korea, Iran, and if one looks at the countries which are in Grey list like Turkey, Pakistan(many others small countries)...it looks all political. Western/US grudges here...
