FATF Plenary Meeting Starts to Decide on Pakistan’s Removal from Grey List

The four-day plenary meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) would begin today (Monday) in Paris to review Pakistan’s progress.

The meeting will also decide the fate of Pakistan concerning the grey list. An onsite visit by the FATF is also planned after the plenary session. The decisions taken during the upcoming virtual meeting will be announced on February 25, 2021.
Pakistani officials say that if decisions are based on merit, then the country’s name will be likely removed from the FATF’s grey list.

However, in case of non-compliance to any action plan, Pakistan will be given more time to comply with it, which may also lead to the country’s removal from the list.

After its October 2020 meeting, FATF strongly urged Pakistan to continue working on implementing its action plans and address strategic deficiencies. Pakistan had submitted a progress report on the remaining six actions plan to FATF last month, and now it is up to the global watchdog to decide on the fate of the grey list exclusion, based on the progress made by Pakistan so far.
The government is optimistic that the milestones already achieved will lead to Pakistan being finally removed from the grey list in the coming June.

US's do more from the state department has found another outlet: FATF.

No matter what Pakistan does, short of dismantling its military and accepting subservience of wannabe regional powers; it's not getting off the grey-list.

I'd be positively surprised if it ever did.

.
I doubt Pakistan coming out of grey list just yet might come out in October but not yet. Leverage is what US needs now more than ever when the doha deal is just about to collapse.

I don't understand Pakistan economy.

Their people look well fed and clothed in the videos we see.

Why are they always short of money as a nation?

Its a serious question.

Are they having to spend too much on defending themselves against hostile neighbours?

Cheers, Doc

We hardly pay any tax

Pakistan in a base level is better then the rest of the subcontinent, we have good and bad like everyone else

But once someone spends time in the country you will understand the statistics often don't match up

Our politicians and political parties are corrupt and want to rule over populations hence don't want change and resist it

The combination of all these things leads us to where we are

Pakistan however once it kicks up will improve very very quickly simply because it's underdeveloped with massive potential

Seems like a good deal man.

People keep what they earn.

And country keeps running on other's countries' tax money (in a broad sense I guess).

One thing most foreign people get wrong ..

Government aka state is very poor. People are not. 80% of Pakistan's economy is undocumented / black/underground.

We also are one of the most charitable nation so yeah money is not a problem, poor governance, corruption, and most of all i see afghan war as the main issue to pakistan's stability. Until there's peace in Afghanistan there will always be an uncertainty as the war is just on the borders and some times it comes banging into our main cities. Political instability is another main issue. The army has been a major player which wants a stable and a trustworthy govt and a little power over some issues mostly security related they want to keep in their hands, and the political parties are just leaches sucking all the cash to their benifit which is not good but fine. The main problem arises when they stop or try to sideline the army. Army needs a trustworthy govt and PTI might be the only party that army trusts. War and corrupt politicians are the only 2 main issues in Pakistan.

How long before the gora money string guys ask the same question I did?

Does the Pakistan population look like African populations to merit the amount of foreign aid it gets regularly?

Cheers, Doc

Govt has done great job to take the country out of this Grey List. However, International politics is also becoming a dirty politics. Some countries have nefarious plans against Pakistan.

Nah..

We will keep black mailing Americans/ Saudis/ Europeans etc for more money ... It has been working great for decades... Although some American Intellectuals have gotten a wind of our methods but I don't think it has been recognized on mass scale by western world

Any money is good money. Why throw away methods that work...

Undocumented economy. New SUVs selling like candies. Importing $2 billion of mobile phones which get sold easily. Yet everyone cries and bitches when asked to pay due tax.
