The vegetable farmers-cum-vendors dumped 20 tons of tomatoes into the underneath of Manair bridge protesting against the lowest prices offered for their crop from the buyers at Sircilla town in Karimanagar district on Thursday.

The price for tomatoes was Rs10 per kg was slashed to Rs 1 per kg on Thursday making frustrated farmers dump the tomatoes making it useless for everybody.

Tomatoes cant be transported and distributed among poor. (At least in India)

Tomatos and onions are seasonal crops, and you cant predict how much they will be produced. We dont have cold storate for these two items.
Hence they will always be in news.
Cyclone or rain in some specific places can ruin the crop and overnight increase the price.
By the time you import it from pakistan, it is too late.

Same the other way around.
It does not happen with rice or potatoes, which can be stored, hence there is no major fluctuation in price

Why not help these farmers to make tomato ketchup or canned chopped tomatoes , which will be products that will be preserved for longer.
Indians are too busy maligning Pakistan and spending billions in Afghanistan to outdo Pakistan while millions in their own country suffer due to the myopia of a select section of the Indian cow belt that is too much focused on putting down Pakistan rather than looking after its own citizenry

Please read my previous post. There is too much fluctuation in production of tomatoes and onion, and lack of suitable storage for these two crops creates such situation.
You cannot create a factory overnight for bumper crop, and mothball it in the next year due to bad crops. There are already too many ketchup factories.
