20,000 NK S.Hwanghae province residents die of starvation

More than 20-thousand North Koreans in South Hwanghae province have died of starvation since former leader Kim Jong-il's death in December last year.

This is according to the Japanese daily Tokyo Shimbun.

The paper cited North Korea sources and said a case of severe famine in the region is being blamed for the high death toll.

It added that the North's new leader Kim Jung-un has recently instructed authorities to distribute rice from military rations to the hunger-stricken residents.

The paper also pointed out that, while lavish celebrations were being held to mark the centenary of North Korean founder Kim Il-sung's birth, a great number of people across the country are literally starving to death.

The acute famine was reportedly caused by heavy rains and flooding last year, which sharply reduced the harvest of crops in South Hwanghae Province.

This news is quite troubling because the said province is a primary source of rice in North Korea. If the residents living in the rice field starve to death, the imagine what the situation is like elsewhere.

While the loss is terrible, the sanctions must be doubled up in order to trigger a popular revolt against Kim's regime.

and yet the world community couldn't put aside politics and offer help?

North Korean defectors are the strongest opponents of any food aid to North Korea because there must be a popular revolt before the ROK can invade North Korea.

I put the blames solely on the sanctions by Uncle Sam all these years.
Blame it on China which sustains Kim regime. If it wasn't for China, the Kim regime would have fallen by now and all those North Korean stomach would be filled with rice and fried chicken...

This king joke dynasty must be thrown up but the west is watching like puppets they find Iraq and Afghanistan to be more intresting

That said province had a population of 2 million or less, so 20K death toll means at least 1% of population starving to death during the first four months of this year.

 You wish...

The American led sanctions does not and simply cannot prevent China, or Cuba, or anyone else in the world from rendering any assistance to NKR. But especially China. So the blame rests on China for not being a responsible sponsor to NKR.

They did. North Korea decide to launch their rocket instead.
oh noooooo, NK decided to test a space dildo! OH THE HORROR!

wtf kind of comment is that?

Every country tests military equipment, but NK is not even allowed to send a sat to orbit? And you justify the criminal sanctions and embargos because of that? Some people.

What is preventing China from taking up the slack?

A few years ago North Korean made jeans appeared in a super market in Germany and all hell broke lose. They discontinued them the second they realized they were made in North Korea. Anybody remember that news?

This is the reality of the Western world today. They never change. The same people who caused the holocaust and killed more than 60 million people in a matter of years (World Wars) are now responsible for the death of North Korean people. You can blame it on the leadership all you want, in the end the famines and hunger is all down to sanctions and embargos against the North Korean people.
