Every Kashmiri is a terrorist kill all of them.
SRINAGAR – Pro-freedom group Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday expressed serious concern over killing of two men in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, whom army labelled as militants but locals maintain that at least one of them was a civilian.
Mirwaiz accused the Indian army of killing the duo in a “fake encounter” while being under custody. “Both youth, who were killed under custody, were well educated, unarmed and innocent,” he said, adding, “Labelling them as militants was just to cover the criminal act of men in uniform.”
The pro-freedom leader also expressed concern about continuation of ‘black laws’ like the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in the disputed region of Kashmir. “The army and other forces under its shield would continue to kill innocent people and in this way carry out their anti-people activities till these black laws continue to remain in force,” he said.
Mirwaiz, among other pro-freedom leaders, has called for a shutdown in Pulwama on Wednesday, and state-wide protest demonstrations on Friday. Meanwhile, senior pro-freedom leader Syed Ali Geelani has also called shutdown in Tral and appealed people to march towards Tral town on Friday.
Mirwaiz led Hurriyat Conference also claimed to have filed a petition with the National Human Rights Commission seeking protection of three youth who were arrested from the encounter spot. The petition also appeals the organization to pitch for a response from Indian government, army, district administration and police about the incident. It called for punishment to armed force personnel involved in killing of the two men.
According to the petition filed by the party’s legal cell, the youth – Mohammad Khalid Wani – was killed by the army “without any reasonable cause or justification as in a fake encounter on the basis of fake and distorted facts by the army which bear no resemblance with the facts of circumstances of the cases.” It maintains that the other deceased – Younis Ganie – was a known businessman of the town.
Mirwaiz also denounced the extreme use of force by police and army on the protesters who were protesting against the killing of two youth in the area on Tuesday.
“Terming the use of unprovoked force on protesters and thus causing injury to many others as an example of impunity and power enjoyed by the forces under the draconian laws, Mirwaiz said the innocent killings and injuring of other people deflates the claims of Delhi and its local affiliates who repeatedly state that peace is returning to Kashmir,” a party statement stated.
