What's new

FA-50 and JF-17 are the finalists for Malaysian Air Force's Deal: Korea Times

In a couple of months, this news report will no longer be accurate. A RMAF team is due to visit India in the next couple of months to evaluate the Tejas and get acquainted with HAL's production line and other facilities.

That is very true considering india invented and makes F-16s for america and Sukhoi-MK35s for Russia.

MashaAllah, even if Jeff manages to come in the final short listing, it's an achievement as far as i am concerned considering the competition, my concern is that as our export orders are building are we working on our infrastructure to meet up with the demand? we certainly don't want to be in a situation where our demand is way higher than our supply

Deal will be won by a country who will buy their palm oil

I dont think India will do that over a mil contract on a nation such as Malaysia. But let's say they do, why would Malaysia make themselves more prone to Indian bullying, especially their defense sector buy buying more Indian stuff?

Earlier during his visit to Pakistan, the then Malaysian PM showed much interest in the JF-17 and was given an exclusive briefing on the aircraft.

Well the best of luck to them and to you. I hope HAL does not forget to tell them that the project is on to Mark 2 without a significant induction of mark 1. It will come on line in 2024 which in HAL's terminology is anywhere within the second half of the next century.

HAL is not the lead designer of Mk.2. While Mk1A is HAL project.

lol I don't think this is true. It is pretty much a forgone conclusion that Malaysia won't select FA-50 unless the Korean government decides to spend $$$ on AIM-120 integration for KAI.

FA-50 is an advanced trainer. Not a serious fighter jet.

If we offer JF-17 block 2 with the AESA radar option that will be a game changer.
If KLJ-7A cant fixed in block 2 then LKF601E will be a good option.

I have always wondered how much specialised training that JF-17 (regardless the block) could provide. FA-50 is a trainer jet that could fulfill some jobs of full-blown fighter jets. If Malaysia seeks a trainer, then they should select a FA-50. However, if they stick with the name of their program (Light Combat Aircraft program), they should get JF-17 instead.

However, realistically, Malaysia probably doesn't have budget at the moment and probably ends up getting the attack aircraft version of Boeing T-7A Red Hawk along with Australia in the future. They already have a fleet of F/A-18 Hornet equipped with F404 and probably want an aircraft that could use existing infrastructure for F404.
