F22 Raptor crashes at Eglin AFB

An F-22 Raptor fighter jet has crashed near Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, but the pilot ejected prior to the crash.

FOX10 News has learned the F-22 assigned to the 43rd Fighter Squadron crashed at 9:15 a.m. on the training range 12 miles northeast of Eglin Air Force Base.

The fighter was on a routine training flight

The pilot is reported to be in stable condition.

There is no loss of civilian life or property damage associated with the incident.

First responders from the 96th Test Wing are on the scene, and the crash site has been secured.

A board of officers will investigate the accident, according to officials at Eglin.

All 17 Raptors stuck on the ground at Tyndall Air Force Base not only survived the virtual destruction of the base but were brought back up to airworthy condition within days.

Looks like he panicked and bailed just as the plane regained control

Your assessment is incorrect---.

Many an aircraft have shown to regain control after the pilot has bailed out because the aero dynamics of the flight changed due to the canopy blown away---and some have flown hundreds of miles after that till ran out of fuel---.

One of them landed as well somewhere in the mid west cornfield after the pilot had bailed out and it ran out of fuel---was recovered and refurbished and put into service---

Well certainly the jolt caused by the ejection seat rockets, the loss of weight, and the new drag from the wide open cockpit would affect the flight characteristics of the plane which may make it look like a recovery.
