What's new

F-7P and F-7PG

That would have required a huge upgrade, specially structural....I don't think it would have been feasible.
In house enhancements would have produced a fleet more suitable to the requirements of the PAF plus the relevant changes in house might have brought in more expertise under Chinese technicians in the initial phases. Whether the life of the frames was worht the effort or not is something I do not know.

Pg has a double cranked delta wing, which in itself is a huge structural change over the p. Than comes avionics, radar, cockpit etc.
Pg had different fight characteristics from the p.

All in all wt ur suggesting is not feasible.

. . . .
What’s that?
Offensive Counter Air (Ground).. it's a support role for main strike package and ensures to prevent enemy aircrafts from taking off to intercept your main strike flight. This usually involves doing a low level bombing run over the runways or taxiways

OCA Air is engaging those interceptors/ ADA scrambles after they have taken off.

PAF could convert f7s for specially cas and anti Armour roles along the line of A10 or su 25 and free up jf 17 for other roles. Let's face it it's going to be a while till pakistan would get T129 or other choppers.

It already has good cannon and armament. If it could carry precision weapons it could be formidable platform.

F-7PG is very short legged and limited loads. It will require a lot of effort and pilots to put a decent amount of ordinance on target. A Mirage or JF-17 can do the job of 2 maybe even 3 PGs in ground attack.

Range is the issue brother. It cannot fly far or for long, CAS aircraft need to remain in the air for long time, precision strike aircraft need for carry large loads for long distances, F7PG is ill suited for both. PAF knows how to best use it, and that’s as an interceptor. Which is what it does right now.

How many are currently in service and not retired?

I know this question sounds a bit daft, but can J-7s be "converted" to JL-9s? They're practically the same aircraft, so can parts from JL-9, like nose cone, side vents and other fuselage parts be fitted into the F-7PGs we have? It has been done with the
I mean just look at it:

Could breathe fresh air into the PGs, maybe throw in some MFDs? We could refit these at PAC Kamra, considering how long we've spent tinkering around with F-7s.

What useful purpose would this solve? The main issues are range and payload.

Dorsal fuel tanks allow for increased range. Larger nose cone allows for better radar, extra space occupied previously by the single inlet can be used for better avionics and computers, having MFDs allows for ground attacks using precision guided munition.
Plus all of this could be done for cheap, imagine the capability you're getting compared to the cost.
