With China in mind, India is embarking on a major infrastructure drive in Arunachal Pradesh, with plans for three railway lines in the border state, including one to connect the strategic Tawang plateau with Assam.
While the Defence Ministry has traditionally been discreet about its infrastructure projects in the North-East, the latest standing committee report has revealed detailed plans to enhance border infrastructure. This includes three “strategic railway lines” that have been proposed: Missamari (Assam) to Tawang, North Lakhimpur (Assam)-Along (Arunachal)-Silapathar (Assam), and Murkongselek (Assam)-Pasighat (Arunachal)-Rupai (Assam).

Of the railway lines that have been proposed, the Tawang line is the most significant, considering the strategic importance of the area which is also a major Indian military base. At present, the only access is via road which frequently closes down in bad weather, or helicopters which again do not operate in adverse weather conditions.

In a reply to the standing committee, the defence ministry has said that the survey for the Tawang line has been sanctioned and is due to commence shortly.

For the Along line, the survey has already been completed and forwarded to the railway board while the Pasighat line has been endorsed by the Planning Commission and Rs 165 crore has been allotted. The report also says that sufficient funds have been “assured especially for the three strategic rail projects in the North-East”.

While the government has also accorded top priority to construction of new roads along the North-East border, it is now building “operationally critical infrastructure” including permanent defences along the Line of Actual Control. Almost 50 per cent work on the 73 critical road projects along the China border has been completed.

The government is also working to connect Ladakh to Himachal Pradesh with a railway line.

We need to develop more railway and roads to link sister states for better infrastructure development and grow up.

.
Finally signs of developing some spine. We need to activate airfields too near China border

.
The need for the development of infrastructure in far corners of the country has finally been realized. Thanks to the development on the other side.

we need good roads , railways and the most imp airfield

maximum airfield we have to now open to counter china

Just 1 rail link to Tawang!! That's pitiful man! This is where they need maximum supply lines and that too at least 6-8 lines that directly drop off at secondary bases with military supplies. North Bengal is a fine area (not as hostile as our Sikkimese terrain) to have the rail lines connecting to the border. We need trains to be delivering weapons and ammunition rapidly.. this was the whole damn reason shyte happened 49 years ago. How long have these clowns taken to realize this mistake? 49 years?!

We need train lines from NE to Thailand, burma, bangladesh, china for trade purposes as well to open up business opportunities and agricultural prospects of the north east.

60 years of independence and congress has opened up the border only to import bangladeshis to get their vote. Now is time to do some serious business.

First we have to get rid of terrorists here and the terrorists in Delhi (Maino Mafia). Once we do that and the region is safe enough for investment, we can consider train lines all over southeast.

something is better than nothing....hope the work progresses fast

Only empty talks they will sit on the files for years or china will ask terriorist funded by itself to target that project. We need a leadership with iron grip on things like Indira Gandhi.
