Expansion Plan in Shipyards

Development, expansion and upgradation of infrastructure is in progress at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) under four phases, of which first two phases were completed by March, 2011. Currently, phase 3 and 4 are under progress. All four Defence Public Sector Undertaking Shipyards, namely – Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDL), Goa Shipyard Ltd. (GSL), Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), Hindustan Shipyard Ltd. (HSL) – and Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (CSL) are equipped with in-house design capability to undertake design of ship construction projects for which orders have been placed on them. Most of the other Indian Shipyards have design facility for tugs and other vessels. For Offshore Vessels, Dredgers and other specialized vessels they outsource the basic / detailed design package from reputed design houses all over the world.

Government has sanctioned funds to Defence Public Sector Undertaking Shipyards for their upgradation and modernization. The modernization plans of MDL and GRSE have already been completed. The infrastructure / equipment upgradation of HSL, GSL & CSL is in progress.

This information was given by Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh in a written reply to Shri Rabindra Kumar Jena in LokSabha today.

India definitely needs to invest more,far more in its shipyards。

2 billion USD a year for the next 10 consecutive years would be a good point of reference。

Cochin Shipyard pays Dividend to Government of India for the Seventh Consecutive Year

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a PSU under the Ministry of Shipping, paid a dividend of Rs 16.99 crores to Government of India today. The Company is paying dividend for the seventh consecutive year. The dividend cheque was handed over to Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways by Cmde K Subramaniam CMD, CSL. Shri Rajive Kumar, Secretary, Shipping and other senior officials of the Ministry were present on the occasion.

The dividend is of Rs 1.5 per Equity Share on the 11,32,80,000 fully paid equity shares of Rs 10 each. In addition, the yard has also contributed Rs 190 crores to the exchequer by way of Value Added Tax, Income Tax, Fringe Benefit Tax, Excise Duty, Customs Duty and Service Tax during the year 2014-15.

The performance of Cochin Shipyard had been consistently impressive in the last several years despite a very challenging business environment in the Shipbuilding / Ship repair and Shipping scenario. Cochin Shipyard’s turnover has increased fivefold from Rs. 373 crores in 2005-06 to Rs.1859 crores in 2014-15. Likewise the Net Profits have more than doubled during the period from Rs. 94 crores to Rs. 235 crores. Considering the sluggish market, CSL performed creditably by posting an increase of 13%, both in turnover which increased from Rs 1637 crores in 2013-14 to Rs 1859 Crores this year and in net profit which was up from Rs 194 Crores in 2014-15 to Rs 235 Crores this year. CSL’s achievements during the year include delivery of 07 Fast Patrol Vessels to the Indian Coast Guard. The project of construction of Fast Patrol Vessel is proceeding ahead of schedule. During the year, CSL also delivered the Buoy Tender Vessel on 09 April 2015, a good two months ahead of the schedule delivery.

We need massive capital in shipyards . our rate of producing warships are too slow. We need modern equipments as well as methods/techniques to modernise shipyards.

Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Policy: Shipping Ministry launches revamped software and updated guidelines to facilitate implementation

To promote Government of India’s ambitious ‘Make in India’ programme and to encourage domestic shipbuilding by providing a level playing field vis-a-vis foreign shipyards, the Government had approved the Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Policy for Indian Shipyards in December 2015. This policy provides Rs. 4000 Crores financial assistance to shipyards for 10 years for contracts secured between 01.04.2016 and 31.03.2026 (including these dates).

The Shipyards Association of India had raised certain issues with regard to the previous web application which had been launched in June 2016 for processing applications for financial assistance under the policy. The Ministry of Shipping held a series of consultations with the stakeholders and has now rolled out an updated version of the web application, along with an amended set of guidelines, for applying under the policy.

Under the amended guidelines, increased numbers of days are now available with the shipyards to apply under the policy, as well as to obtain and submit valuation reports. The updated web application also generates a wider choice of international valuers by whom the valuation of a vessel can be carried out.

The upgraded version of the web application will be administered and monitored by the Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai.

Firstly, we aren't at war

Secondly, there is a say in Kannada - "ಹಾಸಿಗೆ ಇದ್ದಷ್ಟು ಕಾಲು ಚಾಚು" meaning "Stretch your legs only as much as the cot allows you to" I believe GoI understands it options better.

Thirdly, don't compare everything with China as their needs are different from ours, better stick with our requirements.
