There are plenty of former colonial countries (Singapore, Brunei, Bermuda, Israel, Cyprus, Bahamas, Barbados etc) which are wealthy today. Eastern Europe was dirt poor under communism. It became wealthy after turning to capitalism. Russia was the only former communist country in which the economic reforms failed and then you decided to blame the West rather than your own oligarchs who stole everything.

so where are data for 1980s? i dont see any except for a view countries but no russia. My source is from a western german schoolbook in the 70s. Its more reliable to trust sources at that time instead propaganda made by winners from the cold war
Nothing from Russia but look at Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Poland. Nowhere close to Italy, Japan or Ireland.

thats because they were always trouble makers and like i said my west german schoolbook from 70s says something different. History is always written by the winners like your prime minister once said so stop spreading your propaganda sources it doesn't work with me as i am smarter than that.

.
Nonsense. Look up the statistics on GDP per capita in the 1980s. Communist countries are way below Southern European ones.
In general, the East European socialist countries were developed industrial countries. And the Soviet Union and half of the world bought their products. Now everything is vice versa - West destroys their factories and workers are forced to go to the West and work there as cheap laborers.

It's the complete opposite. Cheap products from factories in the east put industries in the West out of business. This is true everywhere except Germany who make sure the EU economy runs in their interests.

Yeah, no not really.

Throughout its history, USSR GDP (Gross Domestic Product) has been considerably lower compared to US GDP. At its highest, Soviet GDP reached around 60% of US GDP, but by 1989 it had shrunk to around half the size of US GDP.
By 1989, just before the Soviet Union’s collapse, USSR GDP was reported to be $2,500 billion, compared to US GDP of $4,862 billion. In terms of per capita GDP or per capita income, this translates into $8,700 per capita in the USSR, and $19,800 in the USA.

For people who live in these towns it is. The coal mining town my parents grew up in had a strong sense of community and family values. Then it became a heroin drenched wasteland. Virtually every country in Europe except Germany has a crisis in terms of manufacturing industry which is where the current crisis originates from.
