The European Parliament passed two declarations on 15 April 2011 against the Pakistan government which condemned it for its support to the Taliban. The European Parliament also instructed the European Commission to rethink over the financial packages given to Pakistan to in its fight against terrorism. The European Parliament passed the declarations for the safety and security of European Union. The European Parliament accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism and Taliban and exporting terrorism to European Union countries.

One declaration warned about infiltration of the Taliban in Pakistan military, security establishment and intelligence. The second declaration stated that assassination of Punjab governor Salman Taseer in Pakistan, indicated infiltration of extremist elements into Pakistan’s security services who have the responsibility to safeguard the country’s nuclear arsenal. The declaration also asked the member states of EU to act against those who engage or incite terrorist acts.

The EU has given over 800 million aid to Pakistan since 2004 to curb terrorism and to carry out development projects in North-West Frontier Areas.
