NEW DELHI - French companies Eurocopter and Mach Aero have agreed to establish a manufacturing unit in India. The memorandum of agreement signed by the two firms here Feb. 18 during Defexpo, the biennial defense show, primarily aims at Eurocopter helping Mach Aero to establish its manufacturing presence in the country, a senior Eurocopter executive said.
Mach Aero for several years has been a major supplier of sophisticated parts for helicopters, including the Ecureuil/Fennec NH90 and Eurocopter's Tiger range, according to a Eurocopter news release. Under this agreement, Eurocopter will assist Mach Aero in developing similar levels of technology, quality and production rates for public and private players in India.
Apart from Eurocopter, Indian aerospace companies are also likely to benefit from Mach Aero's presence in India.
"Eurocopter's initiative of facilitating the entry of our trusted partner Mach Aero in India, into our global supply chain is another step towards our long-term commitment of introducing the latest technological advancements with regards to helicopters in the Indian market," said Bert Stegkemper, Eurocopter's executive vice president for global supply chain and a member of the company's board. "We are confident that Mach Aero's advent in India would further develop the precision aerospace parts market in India and would also provide a globally reliable platform for Indian aviation companies to explore new possibilities based on global competitiveness."
Mach Aero Chairman Jean Malonda said that the two companies "have been working as partners for more than 15 years, and I am very proud today that Mach Aero puts its skills and know-how at the service of its principal customer, which is Eurocopter."
Mach Aero, based south of Paris, specializes in the design and production of spherical bearing assemblies as well as hydraulic and high-precision components for major European aerospace firms including Eurocopter, SAFRAN and Dassault. The company reported more than 16 million euros ($23.5 million) in revenue in 2007.
