Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan inspects an honour guard during an official welcoming ceremony in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing April 9, 2012. Erdogan is in China on a 4-day official visit.
Premier Wen Jiabao held talks on Monday with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
"It's our common wish to continuously cement friendship and enhance cooperation between China and Turkey," Wen said during his talks with Erdogan, who is on the first official trip to China by a Turkish prime minister in 27 years.
The Turkish prime minister started his four-day visit to China on Sunday. Before arriving in Beijing Monday afternoon, Erdogan visited Urumqi, capital city of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, which made him the first Turkish prime minister to visit the region.
President Hu Jintao, top legislator Wu Bangguo and Vice President Xi Jinping are also scheduled to meet with Erdogan during his stay in Beijing.
Wen said he believed that Erdogan's China visit will further enhance mutual understanding and trust between the two nations and inject new momentum into the bilateral ties.
After his Beijing tour, Erdogan is scheduled to fly to China's financial hub Shanghai and deliver a speech at Shanghai International Studies University.
