The mosque will be 10,000 square meters and will be able to accommodate 4,500 people.

PREZE, Albania – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday attended the opening of the Balkan’s largest mosque in Albanian capital Tirana.

“As Turkey we saw Albania and our brothers in here as part of our hearts,” Erdogan said at the inauguration of Preze Castle mosque. “Today also we regard all of our brothers in Albania and Balkans as our inseparable part.”

The 10,000 square meters (108,000 square foot) mosque near the Albanian parliament will be able to hold 4,500 worshippers.

Erdoğan stated that there are some who want to damage the atmosphere of peace in the Balkans through terrorist activities while noting that Turkey attaches great importance to peace, stability and prosperity in the Balkans. He said that Turkey is well aware of what it is like to struggle with terrorism and added: "Whether it is in the Balkans or other places throughout the world, we do not want anyone from any religion or ethnicity to pay a high price because of terrorism."

The Turkish president also criticized the European Union's lack of care for illegal immigrants, who he claimed were left to die. He stated that Turkey cannot remain inactive while poor, homeless and destitute people are seeking refuge and that developed countries should take on the responsibility to find solutions to their problems.

Erdoğan, along with Albanian President Bujar Nishani, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, Turkey's head of the Presidency of Religious Affairs Mehmet Görmez and Albanian Muslim community leader Skender Brucaj inaugurated the construction work of the largest mosque in the Balkans.

Erdogan should invite Albania-Bosnia-Kosovo to join ECO. Will be win-win for all parties. EU won't need to come with with excuses if to allow Turkey and Muslim countries in the Balkan to join them or not, at the same time with more members ECO could become a more stronger bloc.

another mosque??

if erdogan and his turkish ikhwaanis are so in love with mosques, they should move to india... there are 300,000+ mosques in india.

Erdogan is an honorable leader to all Muslims around the world.

there is only one honorable leader of the world's muslims... guess who.

.
just 4,500 worshipers its largest in balkans:lol:

Islamabad's Faisal Masjid alone has 300,000 capacity.

Good Job Turkey they should build more Mosques in the world

. .
why not?? after all, his akp party, deriving from ikhwaan, is but a inspiration from india's tableeghi jamaat... erdogan will just be coming home.

you too move to india... probably to bangalore city.
India is not the thekedar of world Muslims.

India is not the thekedar of world Muslims.

but india has the largest number of prayer houses... modern indians love to pray, whether or not those prayers help them or affect them in any way... see, even the nepal earthquake and its demolishing of prayer houses hither-thither has not affected the prayerful-ness of most indians.

erdogan is also a prayer fanatic and in india, he will find bliss.

These are small countries. Albania has a combined population of something like 2.7 million people out of which a significant minority are Christians and atheists (35-40ish percent). Even the Muslims due to decades of communism and state enforced atheism are not very practicing. Given the circumstances hence this is quite a big mosque.

On another note I am wondering if any Turkish member can confirm whether this mosque is larger than Mosques in Turkish Balkan cities like Edirne. Even the European side of Istanbul is Balkan. I am sure the mosques there are larger than this one.

Another perfect opportunity for assassination missed.

Three biggest Ottoman mosques in European part of Turkey have following capacities:

Selimiye in Edirne = 10'000
Süleymaniye in Istanbul = 14'000
Sultan Ahmet (Blue Mosque) in Istanbul= 10'000

Are you sure this number is legit? The biggest mosque in Turkey has a capacity of 28'000 people.
