I don,t have words to express my grief and sorrow, when i see the attitude of our govt. with the people who protest peacefully. Our educated class is beaten sevearly. The attitude with ladies is really very shameful, we feel much ashamed when we see such kind of behviour of agencies and policemen with ladies my questions are
Are we muslims?????
After 60 years of independence why women are unable to get repect and noble place in society????
HOw long this gender indiscrimnation will take palce???
is THIS ENLIGHTED MODREATION of our president???:hitwall::hitwall:

This is South Asia. Musharraf does not have to tell the police to disrespect women, that is something a lot of people are ingrained with as they grow. How many Pakistanis respect traffic laws? How many respect women when getting in and out of buses or crowded areas?

Disrespect has become ingrained in our society, and the police come from the same society, so don't expect them to treat protesters any different than one average Pakistani treats another.
That is something we as a society have to change, by inculcating our children with such values.
The violence is condemnable, but it is a bit much to suggest that Musharaf is deliberately ordering violence.

If women can hug up men in rallies and scuffle with policemen considering it is gender equality than why one should cry when she also comes under baton-charge.

Now this is not possible to deploy thousands of women cops to gaured the women protesters who are protesting along with men.

And BTW what the attitude of Police which is the same all over the Subcontinent has to with Enligthend Moderation ???

We had even seen women protesters being draged by Police in the Western Countries so would it also be termed the fault of Enlightend Moderation???.

And one more question these women coming out in skin tight dresses with ful make up and brushing with men in protest rallies so Are We Muslims ????

;)

By the way, NBC news was reporting from the scene (in front of BB's house) and their reporter said that a lot of this seemed to be for TV publicity since he himself saw the same people getting arrested several times, within the span of a few hours.

Pacfist, what exactly are you griping about? Bhutto being under house arrest? Criminals should be arrested. Or are you talking about women in general? In which case, I see nothing wrong there. I would say Pakistan puts some Western countries to shame in the voice it gives to women in society. At least, parliamentary-wise that is true.

Women in Parliaments: World Classification

Disrespectfulness to women is hardly confined to South Asia, besides some don't deserve much in some cases.

Hi Pacifist,

Buddy---did you happen to see the video of may day parade 2007 in los angeles and see what the LAPD did to disperse the peaceful demonstrators----it would put the pakistani police at ease---once you get hit by that police baton and rubber bullets, you don't want to get hit again.

That is Enlightenment!

No holds barred!

:) Well IceCold i believe
When women demand equal previlages, they should also share the responsibilities equally so there is nothing to cry over when they get some sticks during rallies.
As when they decide to rally along with the violent men they need to get prepare to share the lathi charge also.
After all the poor Policemen also get hurt during these rallies for nothing but to maintain law and order
