Emirates to fly to 170 destinations and flydubai to 100 by 2020
Both airlines expanding their fleet
Airlines in Dubai are gearing up to meet the influx of tourists with Emirates and flydubai expanding their fleet size to 250 aircraft and 100 aircraft respectively, and connecting to 170 and 100 destinations by 2020, top officials of both the airlines said on Monday.
“We will have 250 aircraft and we will fly to 170 destinations by 2020,” Thierry Antinori, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, Emirates, said, addressing a seminar on “Delivering the Tourism vision for 2020 and how Dubai is marketed to the world” at the Arabian Travel Market.
In response, Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO, flydubai, said: “We will have over 100 aircraft and fly to 100 destinations by 2020.”
Dubai will be hosting World Expo 2020, which will continue for a period six months, starting October 2020.
The low-cost airline announced on Monday five new destinations, including Delhi, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram in India; and Almaty and Shymkent in Kazakhstan.
Highlighting the Brand Dubai success, Al Ghaith said: “Without selling a single ticket, we ordered 50 aircraft because we know that the potential in Dubai is bigger and better. We have so far 75 destinations and 48 of these are places not being served by Dubai before. We ordered 111 aircraft to align ourselves to the Dubai vision 2020.”
On his part, Antinori emphasized that Emirates will continue to accelerate the pace of its growth over the coming years.
“We continue to promote our brand and Dubai. In the last two years, we introduced 58 new aircraft and 27 routes to our network, which means today we offer 1.2 million seats coming to Dubai per week. Now with Vision 2020 and aided by Dubai’s geographical positioning, we will continue to accelerate to reach approximately 2 billion seats per week by 2020.”
Emirates, Antinori stated, aims to transport 70 million passengers by 2020.
