This has nothing to do with Erdogan but I find it funny that he hits such a nerve with you that you had to bring him up.

So, according to you, we shouldn't talk about strategic partnerships that our country starts or ends because it's our President doing the talking/signing?

LMAO! :D

And? International relations is almost never static. When a "good development" happens, we talk about it. If and when a "bad development" happens, we'll again talk about it. That's just the nature of diplomacy. What kind of a moron would expect the world to always remain the same?

Macron tells Erdogan: No chance of Turkey joining EU

Erdogan clashes with a reporter over arms supplies to Syria
French President Emmanuel Macron has told his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, that there is no chance of progress towards Turkey joining the European Union at present.

At a joint news conference in Paris, Mr Macron said there were differences over human rights since Turkey's purges following a failed coup in 2016.

Mr Erdogan said Turkey was tired of constantly imploring to join the EU.

He lashed out at a journalist who asked about claims Turkey sent arms to Syria.

The journalist had asked him about a story in Cumhuriyet newspaper from 2015 which suggested that Turkish intelligence had sent the supplies.

Mr Erdogan responded by accusing the journalist of talking like a member of the Gulenist movement, which he blames for the 2016 coup.

"When you ask your questions, be careful on this point. And do not speak with the words of another," he said.

Mr Macron said it was time to end the hypocrisy of pretending that there was any prospect of an advance in Turkey's membership talks with the EU.

The two leaders promised to deepen their co-operation in the fight against terrorism
"As far as the relationship with the European Union is concerned, it is clear that recent developments and choices do not allow any progression of the process in which we are engaged," he said.

The talks were in effect halted following Mr Erdogan's crackdown after the coup.

But the French president also said it was important to keep a close relationship with Ankara, and that perhaps this was the moment to explore an option short of full EU membership - a partnership, as he described it, that would anchor the Turkish people in Europe.

Mr Erdogan has for some time poured scorn on EU overtures towards Turkey, accusing the bloc of being insincere and wasting Ankara's time. He has said that most Turks "did not want the EU any more".

Both men hailed co-operation in the fight against the Islamic State group.

As a very well known story: Couldn’t do with or without her!

France already announced in 2004 that they will hold a referandum if Turkey fulfilled all chapters meaning the gates of EU were closed before it was even opened, its nothing new and no Turk actually expects to be in EU one day.

Turkey needs privilaged partnership without the whole EU bureaucracy, its way better because for exsample Turkey would seek an independent FP even if it was member.

.
Macron clearly pointed out that recent developments and choices by Turkey (despite respecting them, citing their sovereignty) would not allow any progress on the process of adhesion. He had a frank discussion with Erdogan about it.

However,he hasn't closed the door to Turkey and said that dialogue must be redisigned and reformulated and every parties must resume to a peaceful dialogue that will allow to build a relationship that is essential to his eyes, and essential for the religion and the stability.

Instead of adhesion,he spoke of a special partnership with the EU and reinforced bilateral relations. I think that will benefit everyone.

Actually Xenon, that is the case today. I'm sure that you
differentiate between the French FP and that of Austria
or Luxembourg. It is exactly what allows our president to
talk about a "personalized deal" with yours even though as
a Euro-leader he rejects full membership for the time being.

But I also noticed something else in both your post and that
of Vergennes. Namely, the same lies always exist in FP.
Think of Saudi Arabia that is just opening on women's rights
but entered the UN in October 1945. So that for almost 72
years, it contravened article 1 & 2 of the founding document.

Article 1.

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

Article 2.

Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. ...
http://www.un.org/en/universal-declaration-human-rights/index.html

And they're still in infraction as are so many countries on sex
or any other of the conditions ( think fourth mention? ).

These clubs have rules and right now, Europe has an internal
review going on with warnings and sanctions for a couple of
its members because immigration is an internal rule not FP.

For the above reasons, a partnership makes perfect sense.
One thing for sure warrants it : the fact that geographically,
Türkiye will always be where Europe & Asia meet and meddle.

Good day neighbour, Tay.
