Eleven LHC judges to get interest-free loans

These interest-free loans will be repaid by the judges over a twelve-year period

The Punjab caretaker government has approved interest-free loans totalling Rs360 million for eleven judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC), including one of the justices who issued a stay order against a government decision regarding sugar mills.

The Punjab Cabinet's Standing Committee on Finance recently granted approval for these loans, which the judges sought to use for constructing residences or purchasing properties.

These interest-free loans will be repaid by the judges over a twelve-year period, with each judge receiving approximately Rs30 million, equivalent to 36 times their basic monthly salary of Rs912,862.

The judges set to receive these loans are Justice Rasaal Hasan Syed, Justice Shakeel Ahmed, Justice Muhammad Tariq Nadeem, Justice Muhammad Amjad Rafiq, Justice Abid Hussian Chattha, Justice Anwaar Hussain, Justice Ali Zia Bajwa, Justice Muhammad Raza Qureshi, Justice Raheel Kamran, Justice Ahmed Nadeem Arshad, and Justice Safdar Saleem Shahid. It is worth noting that there has not been any previous instance of government officials receiving interest-free loans.

These people wonder why overseas Pakistanis are critical of the situation in Pakistan.

Banks in Pakistan are charging 24% interest rate on house building loans in the present. Those who have taken house building loans are being shamelessly looted.

But elites have everything sorted out for themselves in this corrupt to the bone society.

Agreed, the Pakistani society has been taken hostage by the corrupt because it is in itself corrupt. The natural balance of things indicates there will be a correction or reaction to it.

The way it appears to me, the TLP will eventually morph into a gigantic force. An example is the MAGA movement, one could say that Trump created it as his followers joined the caravan, but it eventually became a populist movement such that even Trump had to re-align his position with what the MAGA mass (called MAGA crowd by the ruling class media to reduce its significance) expected him to on certain few topics.

For now the Pakistani ruling elite will try to use the TLP rallies to diffuse people's anger. In Pakistan a successfull rally in itself is looked at as a great achievment by most. But the joke's on the elite because evenentually the popular mass of the TLP will bring them down.

The dynamics are such that the TLP's leadership cannot take positions or act on them if the following masses don't agree with it. It is distinct from the rest of the so called religious organizations/parties in that its leadership will not be able to give a Friday sermon if it betrays the base. Which is not the case for the rest. For example the JUI leadership is a bunch of drunkard closeted bisexuals but their followers refuse to see the reality, or have lost their moral compass and cannot see it.

The TLP is effectively a bunch of lone wolves that can go berserk at any time and no one will be able to control them. Their anger is religiously driven and for now is focused on the "others" such as non-Muslims like Qadyani, Christians, Hindus etc because they are convinced that there is a conspiracy being carried out against heir faith.

Once their anger turns from the "others" to the "betrayers", that is when the big storm will arrive in Pakistan and burn down everything.

The select few getting free loans while people face difficulties is yet another ingredient added into the angry brew. As things get worse, the elite will try to hoard more and more resources for themselves and their minions. The TLP leadership will be expected, and forced to take a stand distinct from that of the elite approved narrative. A lone wolf or two, seeing as their religous duty, will take things into their own hands and the storm cycle will begin.

That too for Judges ? Judge or teachers have to keep atleast clean image in public.
A judge should never ask for extra favors, unless it's the law giving them perks with jobs. If judges are taking such benefits I can imagine what's going on in police or other departments.

PMLN always buys the judge ...don't believe in hire lawyers for their cases. .

One million Rupee is basic salary of judge, still they want extra favor after free electricity. Country like Pakistan, they should not ask extra favor.
What irony is that most of them are retiring after 1 year and 3 years , while they can repay interest-free loan in installments in a period of 12 years??
Judges should not ask these favors in poor country like Pakistan .

.
I wish I could have gotten interest-free loans.

Anyways, this is the shit reason people want out of this shithole of a country.

Grant of interest free loans to judges challenged in LHC

The act amounts to violation of Articles 2-A and 25 of the constitution

September 08, 2023

A petition challenging the 'grant of interest-free loans' was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) against the earlier approval of the monetary facility extended to eleven judges of the high court.

The petition requested the court to declare the act 'unlawful' as it violates the equity clause and code of conduct of the judges.

“The act of respondents chief secretary, secretary S&GAD, secretary finance civil secretariat and judges amounts to violation of Article 2-A and 25 of the Constitution as it amounts to discrimination and inequality."

"The public at large and even the poor are being charged 22 percent interest on loans while a judge who is withdrawing a whopping Rs900,000 salary is getting interest free loan and that is something unethical, immoral and unjustified” the petitioner Muhshkoor Hussain contended in his petition.

The LHC judges had desired to avail the facility of interest-free loans equal to 36 basic pays for the purchase/construction of houses. Each judge has a basic pay to the tune of Rs912,862. The approval for the grant of the loan has been given by the cabinet standing committee for finance, and two of the judges have already received the interest-free loan amounting to Rs32.86m each, he added.

The petitioner in his petition underlined that the interest-free loan has been granted to Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad, Justice Safdar Saleem Shahid, Justice Rasaal Hasan Syed, Justice Shakil Ahmad, Justice Muhammad Tariq Nadeem, Justice Muhammad Amjad Rafique, Justice Abid Hussain Chattha, Justice Anwar Hussain, Justice Ali Zia Bajwa, Justice Muhammad Raza Qureshi and Justice Raheel Kamran.

The loan amount is being released in one installment and will be recovered by deducting one-fourth (25 per cent) of basic pay on a monthly basis. Eventually, the interest-free loan will be recovered in 12 years, while some of the judges will retire in a year to six, nine, and 11 years.

There is no precedent where an interest-free loan is given that will be payable in installments from their pension either to the general public or to public functionaries. It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan central bank kept interest rate at 22 percent.

"The act of Respondents and Judges amounts to violation of article 2-A and 25 of the constitution as it amounts to discrimination and inequality. The public at large and even the poor are being charged 22 percent interest on loans while a judge who is withdrawing a whopping 9 lac salary is getting interest free loan and that is something unethical, immoral and unjustified."

The petitioner further requested the court that if the loan is already granted they be directed to charge interest as it is being charged from the public at large. He also prayed the court that they be directed to not grant any interest-free loan to judges if any application is made.
