Elbit to Develop Unique Surveillance System with BEL

The company is expanding its cooperation in India, signs memorandum of understanding with BEL at Aero India expo for the development of a new surveillance system

Elbit Systems has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian company Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) at Aero India, the 9th International Exhibition on Aerospace, Defense & Civil Aviation, taking place at Bengaluru, India. El-Op, an Elbit subsidiary, announced at the expo that it will jointly develop a Compact Multi Purpose Advance Stabilisation System (CoMPASS) for naval applications with BEL.


CoMPASS is a surveillance system intended for day and night applications and includes a color camera, a 3rd generation FLIR sensor, a Laser Target Designator and Rangefinder (LTDRF) as well as automatic tracking and command and control capabilities.

The compact system further includes a mission computer, fire control radar, GPS and other subsystems, and it is intended for use in a variety of platforms and interfaces.

The signing of the agreement joins an agreement signed by another Elbit subsidiary, Elbit Systems Land and C4I, with the Indian concern Bharat Forge of the Kalyani Group, for the construction of a joint strategic enterprise in India in the field of artillery.

In the past few years, India has been considered one of the important markets for the Israeli defense industry.
