Eid gift: India to set free 31 Pak prisoners
India on Thursday decided to release 31 Pakistani nationals from its jails on September 15 as External Affairs Minister S M Krishna conveyed Eid greetings to his Pakistan counterpart Shah Mahmoud Qureishi.
The decision came a day after three prominent Pakistan citizens, including the head of India-Pakistan judicial committee on prisoners Justice (retired) Nasir Aslam Zahid, met Krishna, Home Minister P Chidambaram and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and appealed them for the release of 71 Pak nationals.
In a letter to his Pakistani counterpart on Thursday, Krishna conveyed New Delhis decision to repatriate seven Pakistani fishermen and 24 civilian prisoners on September 15, 2010.
