Egypt’s NileSat halts broadcast of Press TV, other Iranian channels: Saudi media

The Egyptian-owned satellite NileSat has reportedly halted the broadcast of three Iranian TV channels for two years.

Saudi media say Egyptian-owned satellite firm NileSat has halted the broadcast of three Iranian TV channels, including English-language Press TV news network, in yet another attack on media freedom.

The Arabic-language Saudi daily newspaper Okaz, citing an informed source, said Sunday that the regional satellite provider halted the broadcast of Press TV as well as entertainment and movie channels of iFilm in English and Arabic languages.

Earlier, some informed sources had reported that Arab satellite companies had agreed to cancel their contracts with Iranian media outlets in the region.

The move by the Arab alliance was claimed to be a response to the networks’ “spread of rumors and creation of division.”

It is not the first time that Iranian television channels come under attacks by Arab and European satellite firms.

Egypt — a close Saudi ally — is party to a Riyadh-led coalition waging a bloody military campaign against Yemen. The Saudi regime and its allies are especially outraged by Iranian media’s wide coverage of the crimes being committed against Yemeni people, among other issues.

Since its launch in 2007, Press TV has been using a wide range of platforms, from TV broadcast and website to social media, to offer its audience a fresh view of world news, with a focus on developments in the Middle East’s conflict zones.

In April, Press TV’s verified YouTube account — along with the page of Iran’s Spanish-language Hispan TV — was blocked with no prior notice by tech giant Google.

The move came as the US stepped up its pressure campaign against Iran with the backing of Saudi Arabia and other repressive Persian Gulf Arab regimes. Washington is the main sponsor of the Saudi-led war on Yemen.

Freedom of speech is only good for the US and its loyal pets.

Press TV is a mix bag at times but banning it helps Iran"s narrative of being squeezed by the Gulf Arabs

I can only wish that Iran gets banned from all entertainment satellites. That would boost the attention for Iranian space investment and progress.

Iran, India, Pakistan, Russia, Africa, Central Asia, Syria, North Korea, Cuba and South America need to have a combined manned space program.

I hope so !

What happened to your manned spacecraft?

What happened to your manned spacecraft?

The project is called Gaganyaan and the first unmanned test is meant to be in 2020 December and the first manned is meant to be in 2021 December.

I say "manned" but there are plans of one woman being among the three cosmonauts who will go into space on Gaganyaan.

I thought Sisi was better than Morsi who was a Western puppet.
Americans don't topple their puppets. Morsi was just a true idiot with severe paradox in his policies, perhaps he wanted to be a moderate sh!t!

He established his connection with Israel while was supporting radical Salafi (Takfiri) movements, so he lost the support from both-anti west and pro-west Egyptians.

Hmm, you have an interesting theory.

We should also keep in mind that he belonged to the Ikhwaan, who are no moderates, and therefore he opposed Bashar al Assad who in turn is the enemy of Washington DC and Israel.

I don't think Morsi was toppled by America. He was toppled by genuinely patriotic Egyptians who simply did not want mullah rule.

iran cant invest with lightweights. If the US can come to India and demand you cease your legitimate trade with a country "or else". and 1.2billion india sais "yes sir" and bends over.

that's not a serious country. that's not a serious geopolitical player. that's not a player you get into long term contracts with.

When India grows a pair of balls. and actually defends their national interests. and doesn't allow some orange clown come and dictate their trade and foreign policy. then Iran might see India as a serious geopolitical player again.

India is a lightweight. this has been proven repeatedly. when India used to be much weaker, they used to be the standard bearer of the non-aligned movement. you are drifting into US puppet territory rapidly

if this doesn't light a spark under the mullahs *** to take the space program more seriously and start sending military satellites into space. then nothing will.
