Russia and Egypt have signed an agreement on supplies of fifty helicopters of the Ka-52 Alligator family and Moscow does not rule out delivery of the deck-based version of these helicopters that were designed for the defaulted Mistral project, a well-connected source in the sphere of defense technologies told TASS.

"An agreement on the supplies of fifty Ka-52 helicopters has been signed," he said. "If the Egyptian side finds it necessary, the sea-based version of the helicopters will be supplied."

Officials at the state weaponry trading company Rosoboronexport refrained from commenting on the information.

Elysees Palace said earlier on Wednesday the French government had reached an agreement on the sales to Egypt of two Mistral-class helicopter carriers that were originally built for the Russian Navy.

Sources in the Russian Navy’s Main Headquarters told TASS in August that the Navy expects to receive the first Kamov Ka-52K (Katran) ship-borne helicopters in 2017-2018. The helicopters were earlier intended to be based on two Mistral helicopter carriers, which France has refused to deliver to Russia over Moscow's stance on developments in neighboring Ukraine.

The Ka-52K is the deck-based version of the Ka-52 Alligator combat helicopter. Initially, this type of helicopters was developed for Mistral helicopter carriers ordered in France in 2011.

However, France froze the delivery of two Mistral-class amphibious assault ships to Russia in 2014 over Moscow’s stance on developments in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Francois Hollande agreed on terminating the contract on the delivery of the ships to Russia.

Russian Helicopters rotocraft manufacturer and Russia’s Defense Ministry earlier said Ka-52K helicopters would be based on other ships of the Russian Navy instead of Mistrals. Russian Helicopters has also said the company expects deck-based Alligator helicopters to enjoy demand on international arms markets.

50 that is a massive number man Egypt is on the roll . From Naval ships to Fighter Jets and Attack helicopters .

.
Why are Egyptians buying large quantity of Weapons??? Even they're looking to buy the Mistrel class LHD from France?? Why do they need LHD???

. . . .
Replacing their dependence on US. Their current inventory is heavily reliant on US assistance for upkeep.

Not exactly sure why other Arab states are funding their acquisitions when Egypt hasnt stepped in against ISIS.

.
hmm My Question why do Egypt need LHD?? Given their economical condition and problems inside the country???

Are they going tp lease them to Russia or what???
May be resale to Russia.
May be it is back channel arrangement to sell Mistral to Russia by France as onboard Russian equipment would not be stripped.

.
They are massively upgrading their Military strength. They aren't a country that can afford it.

Interesting. If Russia is seeking buyers for the Ka-52's originally ordered for the Russian Mistral's then the implication is that the arrival of the first domestic alternative (Lavina) is still many, many years away (if forthcoming at all)

Possible. Somehow French seems very quick in settling the Mistral compensation to Russia and Russia didnt have too much fuss over the amount too small or too much. French didn't want to damage its credibilities for military deal while at the need to balance its responsible for EU. This re export scheme best explain the possible scenario.

Its very interesting game
Selling LHD (without stripping down onboard Russian equipment) to a nation with no credible surface ship forget amphibious capability gives a hint.
After some time with defusing tension these two LHDs may be under Russian naval flag.

point? Russia made profit from the contract not being fulfilled

Profit or not profit its not in my knowledge but situation clearly indicates its being back channel arrangement to transfer the ships to Russia, as Egyptian Navy is not able to operate 1 LHD with radical increase in budget forget a pair.

You forget they need to paid Egypt the commission for acting as middleman. Money aside. its more important for Russian to acquire the capabilities.
