Can someone explain this:

Poultry farmers say that the coronavirus lockdowns have led to a decrease in poultry production with the closure of hotels and ban on big marriage ceremonies. Many of these farmers decided to either scale down their businesses or shut some farms altogether when the Covid-19 struck for the first time.

Ok so why does production of chickens depend on hotels and marriages? Surely they're no more than 5-10% of the market.

Hotels, local restaurants, marriage halls catering services they easily constitute 30-35% of consumption. Household consumption also dropped during Covid lockdown (economic crunch) Chicken prices dropped to 130 Rs/kg live just 3 months back.

Ah I see, my confusion was "hotels" are usually considered rest stops/overnight stays but in Pakistan "hotel" refers to restaurants as well. What are the covid policies for restaurants?

Dine in services as well as take out were banned for about 4 months. Afterwards gradually takeouts were allowed. Delivery is not a major portion of local restaurants revenue, majority of them don't offer such services.
Marriage halls were completely shut down.
Prices were at a throw away level to get rid of stocks before they die to mitigate losses. Poultry industry suffered losses, they were short on capital for the next cycle, resulting in decreased output for the industry as a whole.

It may not have been handled correctly but we may never know how much it helped in keeping the outbreak in check.

Chicken & egg prices are controlled by government through DCs. When there were low rates DCs could support poultry industry by announcing 20-30Rs extra so farmers could sustain the crisis. This didn't happen because government wanted to teach a lesson to Hamza "Kukri".

As of today retail egg price in india is 12 per one egg and 1 INR = 2.16 PKR, so eggs are relatively cheaper in Pak...

I bought 30 eggs at inr 175 yesterday.
