Even the name of EFES are enough to loose our Western neighbour's sleeps over. The exercise area is problematic Aegean and EFES exercises simulate a directly invasion scenaria against a land part/island with Using all Land-Naval and AirForces at a likely war. The psicological effects of those exercises are the main reason of our neighbour's economical failure.

I have two questions to my Turkish friends. Is it true that Turkey is planing to change the infantry rifle from the G-3 to the HK-416? Personally I like the G-3 and the 7.62x51 round. In the states we have a domestic rifle like the G-3 called the PTR 91 and I own one. I love the rifle it shoots well and has great distance. Yeah there is The Hk-416 is a sexy rifle but it chambers the 5.56 which is not bad in urban warfare like Iraq. But in Afghanistan or mountainous warfare it is terrible. I knew an Afghan war vet who told me he would rahter use a FAL or a G-3 in Afghanistan then the M-4.

Second what is the dispute between Turkey and Greece? Is it Cyprus? Also what is Turkey plan's in the event of war with Greece? i am pretty ignorant on this issue so I want to know the Turkish perspective. Also that military exercise looks awesome!!!

Well Yes and No. The G3 Rifle is going be phassed out and replaced by an Turkich made Rifle Based on HK-417 Design. The Mehmetcik 1 (Licensed HK-416) Rifle which was originally ment to replace the G3 but its cartridge was to weak for the Turkish army requirment.

The dispute with Greece are based on many many reason. From Conquest of Constantinopel till forests fires, From Aegaen Islands claim till Cyprus Invasion. There are far to many reason to name.

There are disputes over territorial waters and air-space. Greece thinks they own Agean just because they have the islands to put it simple. And Cyprus issue is a major problem.

There are also cultural and historical grievances too but mostly on Greek side. As you may know Turkey got bigger problems than Greece. After war of independence we moved on but Greece seems to have obsessed with some things. Nothing that can't be fixed in my humble opinion.

And National Assault Rifle(MPT) will be a 7.62x51 gas-operated rifle as shown in cabatli_53's picture. There are prototypes which currently undergoing some tests. Will be ready for mass-production in next couple of years. Fix: my mistake, this year

1-Conquest of Constantinopel - fall of Byzantine Empire
2-During WW1 greeks were minority in Ottoman Empire and when empire weakened they became pawn to UK captured Aegaen city İzmir , just like Arabs and Armenians they become pawn to outside forces , generated civil war and fastened the collapse of empire.
3-Idiotic greek dream called Enosis executed by EOKA(a terrorist organization created by Greece and supported by Cyrus greek goverment) to annex Cyprus to Greece they tried to eridicate cyprus turks , burned their village etc...Then Turkey intervaned they call it Cyprus İnvasion we call it Cyprus Peace Operation.They always act as if we invaded cyprus for the fun of it even though Turkey santioned by west like 3-4 years because we executed Cyprus Peace Operation.Of course you would never heard of this side of story in west since majority of Turkey muslim and more importantly direct successioners of Ottoman Empire..
4-Also both side always blame each other for forest fires during summers.
5-It is believed Greece let PKK use their land as training ground in 1990s and protected Abdullah Öcalan for a while.


But these event are part of the history , most people in both countries let their hatred long time ago and i read a news today in hurriyet we can open (limited at first) visa free movement between two countries in a few months.Sure dogfights over Aegean border and territionel claims or saber rattling part of daily life in internet but theres not much hatred left after so many years.
