Duterte OKs acquisition of fighter jets

.
for three aircraft, anyone can accept a gift.

Nigeria paid like $25M for three aircraft, anyone can accept a gift.
That leaves Myanmar.
The rest is just fantasies.
'Western'
'European'

these countries cant afford overpriced fighters jets just for the label namesake(maybe so for designer handbags like Gucci, Armani, D & G)- they would rather go for pragmatic value for money in defense procurement

If Thailand, Indonesia and Africa cannot afford Western Aircraft, how come they buy
  • Gripen
  • F-16
  • Rafale
  • Su-27
  • Su-30
  • Su-35
  • MiG-23
  • MiG-29
Cambodia hardly has an air force.
The only open tender south of North Africa I am aware of is Botswana, and they are looking at Gripen and FA-50.
The FA-50 seems to outcompete both JF-17 and Tejas in the Asia export market.

.
I don't think US will sell its jets to a country where allegedly severe Human Rights violation occur. PAF can go for Russian and even Chinese have a possibility. 4++ jets such as Rafale are out of picture.
This is Trump administration, still possible. He just doesn't care.

.
Regarding KSA, the case is different. Just as When Pakistan was fighting Soviets covertly and also working on nuclear program, it was still given military and financial support. But when the soviets left, we had sanctions all over us.

Nevertheless, there is still a chance that PH and US seal fighter jets deal especially if SCS gets hot.
How is it different? US policy is flip flopping and inconsistent. One face , US brag themselves as champion of human right and defender of freedom. On other hand they support oppressive regime.

This is called hypocrite. No one will trust a hypocrite of back stabber.

Russia is unlikely, specially when PH still care with US-PH relationship. I think they will buy mostly US 4 gen fighter or FA-50. But I bet it's more FA-50 than the more expensive US jet fighter.

The dark horse is Duterte, and Russian/no Russian depends on his daily mood.

The thing speaking against the FA-50 is that the Phillippines have not asked for funds for getting additional FA-50s. They have announced that they want some squadrons of Multi Role fighters.

.
I think Philippines will put for two squadrons of GRIPPEN NG

How many countries looking for fighters put up the JF-17 on the list?

As for low price, the JF-17 was designed for only a few thousand flight hours.
That information was removed from the JF-17 website, when it became an issue.
If you have to replace and or refurbish the aircraft a couple of times to reach 8,000
flight hours, the aircraft is maybe not that cheap.
That website itself hasnt been updated since ages.. carrying info from mid 2000s.

The important point is how many flight hours the airframe and engine support.
The purchasing cost of a JF-17 is only part of the picture.
Any cost to refurbish the airframe for 8-12,000 flight hours needs to be added to the purchasing cost for a valid comparision. You also have to add the cost of a few more aircraft to maintain the same readiness as an 8-12,000 flight hours design.
