Duo (US and Israel) Find Themselves Isolated On the International Arena
It now seems that Russia and China are still dragging their legs and they are still looking to the diplomatic track: Israeli ambassador to the UN.
March 10, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - As the United States hopes for imposing greater sanctions on Tehran fade away, top Israeli officials continue their futile efforts at convincing the world about the need to impose sanctions.
Israeli chief of staff of the armed forces, Gabi Ashkenazi, pressed Washington to impose sanctions against Tehran. These reflect the Iranian attempts to harvest regional instability through its proxies -- Hezbollah, Hamas and other terrorist organizations, therefore the international community must stop the Iranian nuclear program for its own sake, while all options should remain on the table, Reuters reported Ashkenazi as saying.
The latest effort to impose economic pressures on Iran hit a wall when, China, Russia, most Latin American countries, Turkey and the rest of the international community rejected the move by the US and its staunchest allies. US and Israel seek to deprive Iran of a peaceful domestic nuclear program claiming that Tehran poses a great danger to the world. Currently, Israel with helps from the West illegally stock-piles a large inventory of nuclear warheads, which poses a grave danger to the fragile ecosystem and the entire population of the Eastern Mediterranean region and beyond.
Yesterday, Israels ambassador to the UN Gabriela Shalev, reacted angrily to what is likely be an increasingly watered-down sanctions against Iran when said, It now seems that Russia and China are still dragging their legs and they are still looking to the diplomatic track, we are more than suspicious because these diplomatic overtures took over the last years and the Iranians are mocking them.
China has already dismissed the effectiveness of sanctions and instead urged both parties to continue negotiations. Russias Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also conveyed Moscows stance on this issue by reiterating that there still exist rooms for more negotiation and therefore any talk of an all out sanctions against Tehran should be unnecessary at this time.
